Question:

Weather stripping for car rattling (caused by bass)?

Ok, my car's trunk has the weather stripping attatched to the car itself (lining the trunk). If I were to put weather stripping on the trunk itself so that it presses up against the existing weather stripping, would/could it stop it from rattling so much and keep more air (air for the bass) in the car? Any suggestions are welcome, unless your talking trash =)

Note: Please do not recommend me to dynamat/soundproof the car, I will hopefully be doing that down the line somewhere.

Thanx in advance!

  1. Well, I'm not sure how weather stripping is causing a rattle. Generally speaking, rubber doesn't make a sound. If the trunk itself is rattling there are some solutions, but you have to figure out exactly where it is coming from.

I had problems with weather stripping before on a trunk but it was the whole trunk on hinge that was squeaking....... I bought a new piece of stripping from the dealer and it worked for only a month or so before it softened up like the old one.

Not to many solutions, but i doubt the problem lies within the weather stripping.

  2. adjust your trunk lock so that it pulls the trunk down tighter adding extra weather stripping will just let more water in to the trunk causing damage to your equipment

  3. i did something similar, but way less complicated and expensive. i put a sock behind my licese plate, which killed that rattle, and i also tightened all the nuts in the trunk.

for the lid i used a 1 dollar necktie from goodwill that was all black around the lock, kind of like a washer for a nut and s***w. gave about a quarter inch of space which meant a lot less rattle for me.
