Weaving plastic into purses?

I saw these purses at http://www.ecoist.com/ and thought they were so cute. I wondered if there was anyway I could make them myself. Since I am not sure what to call them, I couldn't search them on the internet. Any ideas?

They look like they were made with basket weaving techniques, so try that.

Certainly a basket weave.

You would need clasps to close and finish them off though.
