Question:

Web address etiquette on printed advertising materials?

I am currently designing a price sheet, but also design the print ads, business cards, etc for our small business. Currently, we use " www. thewaterjug. net " (without spaces - just trying to stop spam). Would it be okay to only print " thewaterjug.net " or " TheWaterJug.net " on the advertising materials? Would that be improper? Or even confusing for some potential customers who are not internet savvy?

  1. The only "rule" you have to follow is to make it as easy as possible for people looking at your printed materials to type the address into their browser. So I would go with TheWaterJug.net.

  2. I think the majority of web addresses I see show the www.

I'd go www. TheWaterJug.net (without the space).  If you have customers who are not internet savy, I think you need to show the www.

Then for readability, upper and lower case (e.g. capitalize the first letter of each word - which improves readability).  There have been lots of studies over the years that show readability improves with use of upper and lower case (rather than all caps; or all lower case).

  3. Personally I think I would go with www.TheWaterJug.net.  I order all of my business cards, marketing material, and promo cards through a company called Time4Printing and they actually gave me that same advise then I was doing my first business card. (THeir phone number is 888-411-3313 and their website is www.Time4Printing.com...website is not great though) I love it.  If you need anything printed you should give them a chance...their prices and quality are far better than anyone I have used...and I have used a lot...and I almost always get to talk to the same person when I call. I think they have it set up in territories as far as where you are calling from.  Well... I think I have given you to much info now...good luck!
