we're running GA and not able to use the conversion goals at the moment (IT have implemented the 'thankyou pages' using dynamic pages which produce the same URL & page title)

What measures would you use to look at quality of traffic?

  1. If you are running an information based website, you can look at:

    1. Bounce rate, which GA automatically computes

    2. Stickiness, which you can compute by

1.00 - (Single Access Page Visits / Entry Page Visits)

    3. Look at your referral statistics and see which ones give the lowest bounce rates plus more average pageviews per visit

    4. Percent of visits under 90 seconds -- if it is under 90 seconds, you can be sure they're not looking at anything in your site and left the site immediately

    5. If you have email signups for newsletters, check if you can use GA to track its conversion goals

There are many more ways to analyze GA. Look at their help section or get the book by Erik Peterson on Website Measurement Hacks to give you more metrics to assess the quality of your traffic
