  2. It's an issue of privacy & security. They want company information and correspondence to remain in-house and not subject to internet hackers and snoops.

  3. You would be surprised how many businesses are using gmail with their big domain names.

The gmail/ymail/hotmail options themselves are not bad, but using their names is going to be difficult, and without meaning to be rude, they are generally owned and used by kids.

My business "acme dynamite" may be able to get one email address such as ..... acmedynamite@yahoo.co.uk it would then have to stretch to acmedynamite2@yahoo.co.uk

How many employees could I have before it started looking silly. Then what would stop a fraudster or competitor taking acmedynamite99@yahoo.co.uk ?

It my domain was acmedynamite.co.uk then my secertary Betty could have hers as could my entire 1000 staff.

It would be more reassuring to my customers that we had been established more than 10 mins, that all emails ending with my domain name are very likely to originate from my business.

The email address billybob@acmedynamite.co.uk also tells my customers where my website is likely to be.

Where I live many Independant Coach drivers choose hotmail email addresses. They invest £50,000 ina coach and £150 in signwriting it and then get a free obscure email address to advertise on the rear. I don't get it!

  4. Business people can usually get an email through either the company they work for or their internet service provider (like Comcast or ATT).

  5. Because of privacy issues.  You don't want your business matters to be trusted to people like Jerry Yang of Yahoo because he is a wan*er.

  6. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Some bosses (likely in relatively smaller enterprises that don't do much roaming) may not LET their employees use web-based email because those bosses want tighter control over the email transactions. With non-web-based email. The corporation can conrol the email through the corporate email servers, and therefore store employee emails and be able to monitor ALL transactions. With web-based email, on the other hand, employees would be able to use email addresses away from the office, perhaps unmonitored, for perhaps "nefarious" purposes...

  7. It is more a matter of professionalism than anything else.
