  1. The best thing you can do is read simple books to your child and point to the words as you say them.  Such as "See the dog run", "see the cat in the tree".  OR buy a good teaching DVD or tape for teaching young children to read.  Reading well and understanding words is what will get your child through life.  Do this at the same time each day.  They will not sit there for too long, so don't get upset when they want to go do something else.  You are in the 'terrible twos' now, as soon as he/she reaches three years old they will respond to you and the reading.

By the way, if a child cannot read or understand the meaning of words, it is hard for them to learn anything else such as math.  Reading is THE most important thing for children to learn.  So concentrate on reading.

  2. http://www.dinosaurmusic.com.au/1234%20l...

  3. My daughter loves www.sesameworkshop.org

It is the Sesame Street website and they have lots of games, stories, etc.

  4. www.noggin.com

  5. PLEASE - forget the web. YOU teach your two year old. The bond created when teaching is beyond anything your child can learn on-line. S/he will be on-line all too soon.

READ, READ, READ. When reading to your child point at each word and say the words slowly and distinctly. We began reading to our son the day we brought him home from the hospital. He was reading on his own at 30 months. As soon as your child can recognize words, start spelling them aloud.

In kindergarten our son read 196 books that were considered third grade level - he had a 97% comprehension rate and can spell most words by sounding them out. Do this before the morons in public education start teaching them phonics or they won't be able to spell cat if you spot them the "c" and the "t."

  7. My then 2 year old and I used to play PBS Kids (pbskids.org) and Sesame Street (sesameworkshop.org) together.  His favorite game was the Elmo Alphabet one.  Any letter you press on a keyboard got a response out of Elmo.  The T caused him to brush his teeth, for example.  And the shift key would tickle Elmo.

The important point was that he was able to identify the letters and their location on the keyboard.  Within 6 months, I could say "find the M" and he'd find it correctly everytime.

There are other websites out there, but those two above are the ones I trusted.  The other important point is that you need to make it quality time with you.

One of the newest gadgets from Fisher Price, the Easy Link, allows your kid access to a variety of website/pages that are kid appropriate and safe.  Barney, Arthur, Wiggles, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, Elmo, etc.  It blocks other websites, computer access, and even printer access.

  8. try these to start, but don't rely on these too much.  reading to and interacting with your child is much better.
