Webb Simpson confirms to make his appearance in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
Webb Simpson, last year’s runner-up at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, has once again confirmed to take part in the $6.4 million event, slated to start from Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Simpson lost to Bubba Watson in the sudden-death playoffs last year after carding a par on the second extra hole against Watson’s birdie.
In 2011, he entered the field with an aim to register his first ever victory on the PGA Tour. This year, he is appearing with a new frame of mind, as he has already collected two PGA events in his pocket.
Following his defeat last year, he did not lose his confidence and kept on playing good golf, which paid off in the Wyndham Championship and Deutsche Bank Championship.
He entered the 2012 season with a great record in his hand, and tied for the third position in the season opener Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Later, he appeared to be falling from grace, as he made only two top-10 finishes. Moreover, he has not been able to record a single top-30 finish so far in any of the events he has played.
In the Masters Tournament, he tied for the 44th position after signing his scorecard with a six-over par 294.
Moreover, he tied for the 52nd place in the last event that he played, RBC Heritage, with a four-over par 288 tournament score.
Overall, his performance in the 2012 season has not been able to impress his golf fans, as it did last year.
He has lost his touch and has started making some silly mistakes on the course. Therefore, he needs to tweak his game and bring some positive improvements, if he really wants to take revenge for his defeat last year.
Meanwhile, the defending champion Bubba Watson has also confirmed to participate in the event. He is currently enjoying his form, as he registered a win in the Masters Tournament early in the month.
He defeated Louis Oosthuizen on the second extra hole of the playoffs to earn the first major victory of his career. At New Orleans, he is among the hot favourites to win the title this year.
