Webb Simpson dislodges Luke Donald from the top of PGA Tour Money List
Webb Simpson the rising star on the PGA Tour has now turned into a constant headache for the world number one Luke Donald. With another runner’s up finish last week at the McGladrey Classic where he lost the event on the second Playoff hole to Ben Crane,
Simpson was successful in dislodging Donald from the top of the PGA Tour Money List. This is only going to make things difficult for Donald who is hoping to pull in a double-dip, and remain on top of the money list on both PGA Tour as well as the European
Tour until the season comes to an end.
"It would mean a lot to lead both money lists and that's why I will keep an eye on what everyone is doing," Donald said a few weeks ago.
At the same time however, Donald insists that it is not merely the money which has kept him in the loop to strive and be on top of both money lists, rather it’s the honour to be the first person to clinch the accolade for the first time in history.
“Where I am in my career, I have been very fortunate, and I don’t know where I am on the Money List, career Money List, $25 million or something, it’s not like I can’t afford to buy things,” he said last month. “I have two nice houses. I don’t spend a lot
of stuff on materialistic stuff, but the money, it would be nice to kind of keep it away.” He added.
Donald submitted a last minute participation request at the PGA Tour for this week’s Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in Florida, which marks the culmination of the tourneys on the tour for the season, in a bid to pull in a strong finish to get
back on top of the money list.
Fortunately for Donald, Simpson faltered at the last moment to lose the title and although the young blazing American golfer is now leading the money list by USD 363,000, Donald will need to at least pull in runners up finish to challenge Simpson at the
top.
Simpson, however, seems to be thoroughly enjoying the rivalry, evidently having little interest to be on top of the money list till the end of the season. Although Simpson happens to be in a great touch, but is also well aware of Donald’s exquisite putting
and says he will not be underestimating the world number one in the upcoming event.
Simpson had an amazing run this year, where he won no fewer than two titles on the PGA Tour, the Wyndham Championship and the Duetsche Bank Championship. He pulled in a joint 14 finish at the US Open at Congressional and another joint 16th at
the Open Championship this year.
