Webb Simpson enjoys his return to the Wyndham Championship
Webb Simpson will return to the field of his first PGA Tour victory that he earned last year, when he tees off at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday, August 16, 2012.
The winning moments came after hard work that he did right from the start of the 2011 PGA Tour season. Prior to his victory, he recorded six top-10 positions, including two runner-up positions.
Therefore, it was the most important week of his career and he has now prepared himself to defend the same title at the Sedgefield Country Club.
While talking to the reporters on Wednesday, he told that he waited for this week ever since he won the tournament for the first time.
"All my memories here are just awesome," said Simpson, who lives near Raleigh, North Carolina. "To break through, have my first victory here an hour-and-a-half from where I grew up and an hour-and-a-half from where I live now... it was a perfect place to
break through and win".
He also told that he learned from his experiences, especially when he came close to victories and failed in the end. Last year, the first half witnessed him record a number of closes finishes and the second half saw him register three wins.
Just starts later after his breakthrough at the Wyndham Championship, he recorded a victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
He then became the hottest sensation on the PGA Tour after Luke Donald, who was leading the money list and FedEx Cup standings. At the end of the season, Simpson ranked second in both the lists.
This year, he once again recorded three top-five finishes before his maiden major golf championship victory at the US Open.
While heading for his title defence in Greensboro, he is confident that he will not disappoint his fans and retain the trophy with him.
"I was playing really well coming in this week last year and I didn't expect to win but I felt confident that I could win. I don't think I would have won Boston or the U.S. Open had I not won here".
