  1. Yes, it is your address online.  Make sure you name your domain something that is related to what you will write about.

Also, to help you better, I use the following resource with all my online needs:

  2. Hi Laura,

Yes, your domain name is your web address.  For example yahoo.com is a domain name and will be used as a web address.

If you want to register a domain name you will first need to reach out to a Domain Registrar.  http://www.networksolutions.com is one and if price is an issue I would definitely recommend http://www.godaddy.com

There are quite a number of domain registrars on the market, but these are two well known ones that have been around for quite some time.  Both have good customer support by telephone to get you started or answer your questions.

Buying and Selling domains can be profitable so long as the domain you are registering is (1) not a existing trademark or copyright etc and (2) something that other people will want to buy from you.

Take a look at a website like: http://www.dnscoop.com/ to learn more about how much domain names are being sold for.  There are other companies like this that maybe beneficial too.

Hope this helps get you started.

and i make $400/month for this site, also maybe u can try proxy. they can give 0-2 dolalrs /days. so try buy new domain, u need some? contact me

  4. everytime you type a URL to go to a website such as "yahoo.com" you are typing a domain. Now your other question if they are profitable, the answer to this is YES they are very profitable if you know what you are doing and NO they are not if you dont. Good luck

  5. www.yahoo.com

    www.google.com

    www.ebay.com

    www.myspace.com

    www.wikipedia.com

Those are domain names -- it's basically your address on the Internet.

Is it profitable? Only if you have a domain name that someone will actually want to pay you a good fee. And that means you either have a one word domain name (e.g. business.com) or a desirable domain name that someone actually wants to pay huge amounts to get it from you.

But you're a little late in the game for domain name speculation. The good ones have already been taken, and those who make millions in domain name speculation are those who have been in the game early and holds THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of quality domain names

You are better off developing content in the domain name. And to make a website that you put in the domain name profitable, you must create a site that has value to the users -- e.g. why will they use your website? And that means having a good business model supported by quality content and generating good quality traffic

  6. A website domain is like an address for a website. If you have a house, your house has a street address so people can find you. A domain is like a street address, and your website is like your house. People are able to find your website by typing in your domain name. Yes it is very profitable and you dont need a website to make money from domains. Many people make a full time living from domains. You can look on ebay (feebay) for domain names by searching "Domain Name" and you can check peoples feedback to see how many they are selling. If you want to make money from them here is a guide that explains most of the loopholes and ways to do that but it also explains the basics so you have to go to the bottom of the page to get the tricks http://www.richkits.com/domains.

If you start selling domains, the first rule is to choose domains that are short and catchy. If you can find a pronouncable 5 letter domain name, that would be great. Look at all the largest companies on the internet: yahoo, google, ebay, lycos, etc. They are all short one word pronouncable names. You are too late for 4 letter domain names, they are all taken now. There was lots available about 5 months ago but not now. I have over 400 domain names but the ones that I usually sell for higher prices are the short names or the ones that are dealing with real estate or adult names. You can also check current prices that some domains are selling for by going to http://www.namebio.com. They dont list all the domains that sell, but theres alot on there so you can get an idea of what prices certain domains sell for.
