  1. You could try pcgs.com although the pricing there tends to be overstated. EBay is okay if you know what grades you are looking at. If you are looking at higher grade coins you could become a member at Heritage Coin (it is a free sign up) and use their auction results archives to research results.

I have found going to a bookstore and getting a copy of CoinValues magazine every once in  while a pretty good way to keep up with prices. For most issues discounting the prices listed by 10 or 15 percent gets me pretty close to current retail.

  2. Go to the library and look in the Standard Catalog of World Coins at 737.4.

  3. There really are none that are free. The PCGS one mentioned is for coins graded and encapsulated by PCGS and it is their idea of value. To get retail values there are monthly price guides available. If you collect coins you should look into Coin World as well as Numismatic News which are weekly magazines that have a once a month price guide. Since the U.S has minted coins for regular usage since 1793 sites can be expensive to set up due to collecting all the pricing data. World coin data banks would have to be huge and expensive to put together and keep running. Coins as well as us old time collectors, just have not gotten into the 21st century we use books and lots of them.
