I'm looking for a recently updated reference that would list the prices of various common items in Moscow, the capital of Russia. Bonus point if this includes student prices for anything. Thanks!

  1. Expensive....

It will be hard to find any info on this as you can find cheap food from vendors on the street but be careful. Going out is expensive and so are apartments.

You will find that you will pay a premium as you are not Russian, even if  you spoke Russian very well you will still find that things will cost you a lot.

Good luck, I have been to Moscow many times and have not found to much of interest there. If you are going for a pleasure trip go to St. Petersburg it is very beautiful.

  2. 20-30000 per month

Ramstor or Kopeika are cheapest shops

  3. Short answer - more than anywhere else. Well for expats at least. Moscow was voted the most expensive city on the world for 2 years running.

The Metro is cheap as well as street food vendors and the supermarkets. If you're a student you'll probably find affordable lodgings in the suburbs.

The Lonely Planet guidebooks or website has a list of common items and their rough prices.

  4. Don't worry. Not all bad.

The most expensive is renting an apartment.

    20 000 - 50 000 rubles per month, depending on the area.

    Lunch at McDonald's - about 150 rub.

One trip on public transport - 19 rubles.

    0.5l beer in pub - 200 rub
