  6. You want to create a business where you'll host web sites in your home? I don't see how that could possibly work.

The problem is that for every web page your web servers serve, you will have to carry the request to your house and the response from your house. Someone who locates their web server in a building that's already lit won't have to do that.

You will have to pass the cost of carrying everything over your local loop to your customers. I don't see how you could compete doing that.

However, you can certainly design web sites in your home and you can certainly upload them to servers from your home. You just can't put the servers in your home. The cost of getting data to and from the servers would kill you.

For example, the cost of 100Mbps at a lit building is about $800-$3,000 per month. The cost of 100Mbps at a home is about $6,000-$20,000/mo.

And if you only have a single line to your house, it will be a single point of failure for your customers. So hosting anything business-critical would be impossible. (Do you have backup power?)

  7. The best way for you to do this is LEASE a dedicated server at a data center!  You can still host, you can still design, but you will be able to have high capacity redundant lines and backup power without having to buy all that for your home!

Dedicated servers in a data center, or even a co-located server at a data center, will allow you to fully control the server while still hosting without you having the thousands of up front expense to do this at home!

There are several good data centers around and the costs of putting a server into one of those starts at a very affordable price in comparison to the costs of doing this at home. Once your business begins to grow you can add redundant lines and redundant power to your "office" and start to host in house!

Just do some research and I think you will find this is the correct and least expensive method to start your business.
