  1. There is avg.

i have it and i once had 14 virus's on my computer and avg found them and deleted them.

By the way you do have to download it sorry to say.

    Hope this helps.

  2. You can do this by going here:

    http://hphosts.mysteryfcm.co.uk/?s=Downl...

Select the first one: hosts.zip (315K) and then download from a Primary site on the right of the page.

Unzip the file and open the hphosts folder, douuble click the Hosts.txt.

It will display all known sites  - last update 6th August, 2008

To search for a specific name, click on Edit and select Find, enter your text or partial text ie: xpantivirus - then click Find Next, continue to Find Next until search has completed.

Also consider using the mywot add-on, updated every 30 minutes and backed by hpHosts, Spamcops etc.

    EDIT:

Its a text file, quite harmless.  I wouldn't use it otherwise.

Another option is if you have Spybot S&D installed you can click on Mode and select Advanced, go to Tools and click on Hosts File, that lists all of the known bad sites.

Apart from that I highly recommend WOT (Web of Trust). This unobtrusive yet amazingly useful extension shows a rating icon next to each site in search results from Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, and other popular Web services. The rating is easy to interpret, so you can see instantly which links in the results are safe to click.

WOT also places an icon next to the address bar, so you can check the rating of your current page in case you didn't get there via a search engine.

The add-on's site ratings are derived from other people's browsing experiences and databases of malicious sites. The four categories of ratings are Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability, Privacy, and Child Safety.

WOT uses a five-color scale that goes from red to green for each item. If you click a link with a red icon, you'll see a warning before you can navigate to the page. This can save you from accidentally surfing to malicious sites that install viruses or spyware.

The extension is amazingly accurate and complete.

  3. before you do that, delete all your .dll files in windows then reboot that will give you some idea what a virus can do, some virus and spyware can open your email and send it to your contacts, i would not like to be in your address book.

  4. Hi there,

    I think your best off installing an application like McAfee site advisor which can warn you of dangerous websites;
