Question:

Wedding Bombonieres - Need your opinion on wrapping please?

I'm giving out seedlings to all of our guests at our wedding reception. I've already bought the pots in bulk, they are 7.5cm wide and 10cm high. I'm going to purchase all of my seedlings a few weeks before the wedding and repot them into my own pots. Then I'm going to wrap the pots in material and a ribbon.

Do you think I should go with callico material and pink ribbon or pink material and ivory ribbon? I don't want to do half and half, I want them all to look the same. Although callico is alot cheaper then a pink cotton would be, lincraft have a massive sale on at the moment so I could pick up fabric very cheap regardless of which colour I choose. I think that pink fabric would have a better impact.

Which would you choose? Callico material & pink ribbon or Pink material & ivory ribbon? I'm kind of thinking that I could use this opportunity to save more money from the sale, or get better material for what the callico would have cost me.

  1. FYI: For the Americans out there -- Calico = Muslin in the USA.

Have you considered dying the calico?  You can do it in the washing machine with RIT Dye.  Not sure if you have RIT where you live, but I'm sure there's an equivalent.  I dyed a school project (in calico) a beautiful light pink color.  A small bottle of RIT will do probably 10yds/meters of fabric and the bottle is just a few dollars.

(I was a fashion design student)

PS - To Americans, Calico is a small patterned, often flowery quilting material!

  2. I like the idea of the simple pink with ivory.

  3. I think the pink material with ivory ribbon would be very pretty and a little fancier looking.

  4. I think the callico and pink ribbon will be fine if you are trying to save money. The majority of guests don't really pay attention to details like this too much so I think it's a good way to save some money.

  5. Pink Material and Ivory Ribbon would look beautiful.

  6. Another vote for calico with pink ribbon.

  7. Hi:

Oh....thanks "life is good" for explaining what calico material is to us Americans.

    I appreciate it!

In any case, I vote for the calico and the pink ribbon.  Once they are all put together

on a table, I think that it will look great!  And, for the savings on the material.....I would definitely go with it!

  8. Calico MEANS a cotton fabric with a small, usually flowered, print on it. If you want a small calico print in pink, that will be fine.

Otherwise, just go with a nice plain pink polycotton blend fabric, should be able to find cheaply anywhere.

  9. Calico & pink ribbon sounds very earthy (it being a plant & all) & will look great & if you change your mind on the linen Calico is very easy to dye.

  10. The expense of pink material, only to have it discarded as soon as the guests get home would give me thought to pause, calico is less expensive and is more natural and I think this would serve your purpose and the environment better...however its your choice and ultimately you need to make the decision. I think the idea of the potted plants as a gift is lovely btw :-)

    best wishes

  11. Hi there.  Congrats on the upcoming wedding.  Im having the same dramas you are having and trying to plan my own favours...   I would go with the calico and the pink ribbon -only because it will save you money and seriously, it will look gorgeous, and people will love it regardless and you will have that little bit of extra money you can put towards something else.  Have fun making them and good luck with everything.
