Question:

Wedding Dress: White or Ivory?

I hear Ivory is becoming more and more popular and it looks better on most skin-types but darker skin types can pull off stark white without looking washed out and white looks better on darker skin. Here's my problem though, I'm really white right now but I plan on tanning before my wedding which means I'll be a little darker but I'm worried I won't be dark enough to look good in white OR will ivory and the tan skin look bad against eachother? I don't know and I have to order the dress soon!

  1. Go to the bridal shop and try on gowns.  See which color (the white or the ivory) looks more flattering with your complexion.

  2. Dont tan and wear Ivory.  I think it is very classic.  And you will look really great in the wedding pictures.

  3. It's not the color of the dress that matters. Trust me. I've wanted a white dress since I could remember. Once I began trying on dresses, I specified white to the bridal associate, but on a whim, she brought me an ivory dress. When I put it on, it was amazing, and I thought I could have it in white. When she broke the news to me that it was ivory only, I was still totally in love with the dress, and the color truly didn't matter. It was the dress of my dreams, and I felt so gorgeous in it.

I think if you are tan, either on will look amazing. Ivory looked really good with my medium tan skin.

  4. I was convinced I wanted ivory but when I started trying on dresses it just looked like dirty white with my skin tone and I am quite fair. You may find white suits you. Try it before you dismiss it.

  5. I don't think tanning would really make a difference so I say you should go with ivory.

  6. A lot of women have this problem for the simple fact that whiter women want to tan so they look just a little more elegant on "their" day. I personally have this problem I am very fair skinned but I just bought a white wedding dress because of the fact that I am going to add some color to my skin before I say I do. If you have sort of a beige color to you then I would go to where you are going to buy your dress and ask one of the ladies there to help with the colors. With me Ivory looked ok but the white actually complimented my color and it may do the same for you. Ivory I would be careful of though because if it looks too yellow that will wash you out no matter what you do. Some Ivory colors with tans can make you look tinted yellow so that is just an FYI

Congrats on your engagement and I hope this helped with your dilema

  7. Tan now and then go pick your dress to see what looks good. Then you can tan again before the wedding.

  8. White and ivory are so close, I personally don't think it matters too much.  Someone was wearing ivory at my wedding, and there is a picture of the two of us right next to each other.  (My dress was white.)  Anyway, you could barely tell the difference between the two colors.  And, I also am pretty fair skinned normally, and got an airbrush tan before the wedding to "take the glow off."  It looked very natural, and perfectly fine in a white dress.

  9. I'd advise against getting a dark tan for your wedding day. I had just moved back from Egypt when i married in England, so i had quite a tan, & my wedding pic's - well my face looked dirty, not lovely & fresh as i'd hoped.

Maybe a light tan will be ok, then try different whites & ivory & see what suits your skin best.

I wish you a lovely day & much happiness.

  10. It depends....

personally I would go with what I feel looks best with my color and what is most comfortable with me.

Also... traditionally, there is suppose to be a thing where only is your a virgin can you have a "white" wedding, because that's what pure white symbolizes. However, no one really does that anymore, so go with what is best for you.

  11. I have seen white dresses on women with very fair skin...and they still looked beautiful...just try your dress on and let the lady at the boutique tell you....they have seen a million women in a million dresses and they have a very sharp eye....she will be able to tell you if  you will be able to pull it off.

  12. I always thought that I wanted a white dress - but when I tried on the ivory dress I knew that it was the right color and I definitely don't regret it.

I would try tanning right before you go wedding dress shopping. Try on different shades of white and ivory and see what one looks best against your skin.
