Question:

Wedding Food?

I' thinking of doing a sweets/slaty snacks buffet for my wedding but I don't know how much is enought. I would feel horrible to have too much food left behind.

The snacks would be set up during the dance (probably 9pm-1am). Guest will be served a dinner from 7-9pm. I'm expecting about 250 guests (give or take 50)

This is what I have (I'm buying the cookies)

200 Bit Size Brownies

100 Chips ahoy cookies

120 Oreo cookies

200 Chocolate Wafer (stick cookies)

ALOT-More than enough Japanese Style Peanuts

24oz (large container at Sam's Club) Salted pretzels

ALOT-Salted Peanuts

ALOT-Chili Peanuts

As you can see, there are 8 different items but I want to know if it's enough of each item (the peanuts are enough, that I know but everything else, I'm not sure about)

  1. I would try even a potato salad for folks to nibble on.  Sweets and salty can only go so far.  Try this recipe:

    Sour Cream Potato Salad

    7-8 Yukon medium potatoes

    4 eggs, boiled

    1/4 c. cucumber, chopped

    1/4 c. green onion, chopped

    1/4 c. green pepper, chopped

1/2 c. Italian or Poppy seed dressing

    1/2 c. Sour Cream

    1-1 1/2 c. mayonnaise

    Salt and Pepper

    1/2 tsp. celery seed

Cut up potatoes while warm.  Add dressing.  Chill.  Separate eggs.  Add chopped whites, vegetables and seasoning.  Combine sour cream, Mayonaise and egg yolks.  Mix with potatoes.  Chill 2 hours before serving.  Garnish with parsley, if desired.

  2. At first I thought this was all you were serving at your wedding. Phew, I'm glad I reread your question and saw that you are serving dinner, and these are just snacks during dancing.

I think your choices sound OK after all. You've already served a meal, and you don't need to be fancy. (Upgrade to Pepperidge Farm if you like.) Don't worry about leftovers. If anything, err on the side of too much food - running out of food looks bad. You can always get your guests to take home any leftovers.

  3. a big cake

  4. I think it's enough!!!! Aot of people won't eat sweets while they're drinking.  I'll agree with making sure you have ziplock bags for the leftovers..

  5. You're having Chips Ahoy and Oreos at your WEDDING??  The cookie/salty buffet afterwards is a nice idea, but PLEASE get something a little nicer! ... Pepperidge Farm makes very good cookies, with a large assortment of flavors and textures ... Your local grocery's bakery will have "homemade" cookies that are about $3 / 2 dozen (ask for a quantity discount) .....  If you have to, make some cookies with refrigerated dough, but DON'T serve Oreos!

  6. I think you should go in another direction and have an  Appetizer - Dessert table. If your trying to keep down coast maybe you should think about cutting your guest list by 50- 75 people. Here are a few suggestion to help you:

  7. make  an area with a candy bar- jelly beans, chocolate fountain etc.

  8. i think it good enough

  9. At the last wedding I catered we put bar snacks out in the bar area and we used pistachios and gold fish crackers. I like the sweet and salty idea. Since most of these snacks keep well just be sure to have some gallon sized zip-loc baggies and you'll have snacks for awhile if your guests don't eat them all. Use smaller sized containers and have someone to re-fill them often so they aren't breathed on or as one guest said. who knows who touched all that food.

  10. i definately think you need a more sophisticated menu for your guests. go with cheesecake and fruit..and also chocolate fondue would be a good descision.

    :)

    good luck
