Question:

Wedding Help!!!! Need decorating suggestions with my theme of birds!?

Sorry long read but please help with each issue!

1. So my gown will be white with alot of pink embroidery. The bridesmaids wear pink or lavender (haven't decided ). I don't know if pink will just overdo it all and frankly I'd rather them wear something like turquoise! But will that go? The favor bags and everything else are pink/lavender.

2. I'm making 1001 origami cranes and hanging them above the reception/guestbook table from the ceiling. My cake toppers are two white ceramic lovebirds. My maid of honor has made another 500 paper cranes for giving away and decorations. How do I give them away? I'm not sending thank you notes (not in our culture).

3. I really love peacock feathers and I was thinking to incorporate that into the decorations. If I want to use them as favors, how do I do it? Do I put them together with the origami cranes? Any unique ideas on how to give them away?

4. Too many different birds or ok? Will the colors go with pink?

Thank you!!!!

  1. don't go too overboard with colour.  i see colours as accents in wedding themes

i think you should have a plain glass vase with the peacock feathers and it use it as the centrepeice.

1.don't have tooooo may colours, get some material swatches and put them together to see what it looks like

    2. put one crane at each persons place setting, you could even use it as a name tag for the setting, depending on how small or big they are...you could sit the crane in a tiny basket or a nest of something sweet like jelly beans or chocolate haystacks.

for kicks you could see if you can find plain wrapped easter eggs and use them as the favours along with the crane.

    3. i think you should have a plain glass vase with the peacock feathers and it use it as the centrepeice.

    4. people will get the theme, which is obviously the point.

  2. I think that the pink would be lovely for your bridesmaids dresses; the only way I could see the turquoise working is if you have them carry pink flowers to tie in the pink trim in your dress.  I don't think you'd automatically over-do the pink - just choose lots of other things in white instead of pink (like the cake-toppers you already have).  It will be beautiful!

You can put a crane at each person's seat (just above the plates) as a favor.  Very cute!  I don't think that anyone would want a peacock feather as a favor, though.  Just use them in the decorations).  I don't think that it's too many birds b/c so far you're only using birds in three places (cranes, cake topper & peacock feathers).

Finally, this "I'm not sending thank-you notes (not in our culture)" is complete BULL!!!  I'm sorry, but unless you are having your wedding in your original country and only inviting guests from that culture, then you should write thank-you notes!  People who skip thank-you notes, write thank-you notes that are one-liners, pre-printed, or handed out at the reception (i.e., generic) are probably the #1 complaint that wedding guests have.  People are so fed up with this lack of gratitude that they actually don't give these people gifts anymore!  If someone takes the time to give you a nice gift, takes the money to purchase it for you, and has the consideration to do this all for YOU, you can have the BASIC DECENCY to write a thank-you note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

    1. Stick with the pink and lavender.

    2. On the cranes, put a thank you note for attending your wedding day,

    something like this:

Thank you for spending our special day with us:

both of your names and the date.

    There is your thank you!!

    3. Use the bigger cranes and the peacock feathers as your center pieces. maybe with some pink and lavender flowers. and some baby's breath in there as well.

    4. No two many different birds are OK. I think it will show that you are two love birds. :)

    Good luck on your wedding!!

  4. I'm not sure, go with your gut and ask family and friends since they will be attending. My only suggestion is to put feathers in your boquet like Sarah Jessica Parker did for s*x and the city. (at least thats how i remember it, its been awhile)

  5. 1) I would stick with Lavendar or a Periwinkle, I think teal or turquoise would be too over powering.

    2) You can place them on there plates at the reception, which will indicate that these are gifts for them to take home.

    3) I would attach the origami crane to the feather. As for ideas, you could do a raffle, but again I think just putting them at there place setting at the reception tables would be perfect.

    4) I think the colours will be just fine, and doesn't sound like too many different birds.

    EDIT:

I think those centerpieces sound beautiful! I would do Pink and Lavender flowers with Peacock feathers and maybe a little baby's breath.
