We are having a small wedding...family and very close friends only. It is a brunch reception at a local classy restaurant. We are obviously footing the bill for food, and we will be paying for one drink per guest and the rest will be cash bar (that is all the budget allows). How do I tastefully word that on the invitation?

  1. If you click on the link below, there's other links that can give you ideas on wording:

  2. I would just simply put cash bar available and let the restaraunt handle dealing with the one drink per person. After all I'm sure you are paying a good price. I wouldn't say that is unclassy because my made of honor at her wedding had an open bar and ending up paying thousands of dollars. I think your doing the wise thing and taking the safe way out. Good Luck With Your Marriage!

  3. I absolutely do not agre with the people that say you do not need to include cash bar on the invitation and just let them find out when they get there.  Everything I have read states that you should inform guests that there will be a cash bar available.  As far as the one drink per person, I'd leave that out of the invitation and let them find that out at the reception, that's a nice little surprise.

Just say, "Brunch reception to follow.  Cash bar available."

  4. You don't need to include details like cash bar in your invitation. If it were me, I would ask the wait staff at the restaurant to inform people that there is a cash bar when they are ordering their second drink.

  5. Don't include anything about drinks on the invitation. Instead of buying one drink something nice may be to have bottles of champagne on the table.  Then if people want more alcohol they will need to pay when they go to the bar.  It may be confusing for people and you don't want to announce "Hey we are buying the first round."  In addition: Cash Bars are usually not the appropriate etiquette at a wedding reception.  It is a party for your guest and they should not have to pay for anything.  If you are on budget restrictions maybe cut back on the number of guest or pick a less expensive place for the reception.

  6. I don't think you need to.

I would just spread it by word of mouth what the plan is, but to go into too much detail on the invitation would clutter it up.

If you really feel obligated, then just say in small words "Cash Bar available" and leave the one free drink out - that will be a little bonus when the get there.

  7. you do not mention the cash bar on the invitation.

Instead- set up a wedding webpage like knot.com and list it on there that there will be a cash bar for those who would like to buy drinks.

  8. If your invitations are fairly casual: "Brunch reception to follow, cash bar available - first round is on us!"

But if your invitations are formal, I would leave off any discussion of beverages. Let your mother, maid of honor, or other family member spread the word to invitees. Then, maybe you could offer a small menu to all your guests when they arrive at the brunch, noting that one alcoholic drink is included with the meal, cash bar available afterward.

  9. I just received a wedding invitation. It stated where the reception is and underneath it said cash bar. This day and age where the parents of the bride and groom no longer pay for everything. Its very uncommon to find an open bar.

  10. Bride Name and Grooms Name would be pleased to have your presence at their upcoming intimate ceremony to exchange their vows.  Following the occasion their will be a brunch reception with refreshments available.

    Then Date and time etc.

In the Bottom right hand corner your can put cash bar.  Then once your making your toasts, let the father of the bride or whomever announce that all the parents or whoever would like to celebrate by buying everyone one drink.

    Good Luck and CONGRATS!
