this weekend my FH asked if I'd thought about my jewellery... which I hadn't! and I've seen a few questions around necklaces today, so I'm asking for your advice/suggestions.

this is the dress, and my hair will be up... what shape necklace? pearls? Diamond? I don't even know where to start!

  1. i think that pearls and diamonds will work because of the colour and pattern on the dress

  2. I think a dress like that would look best with a very delicate necklace, maybe a thin white-gold chain with a single pearl in the middle, very close around the neck.  Anything more than that would overwhelm the dress, because there is already such beautiful beading in the bodice.  Don't want too much bling!

Also, I wanted to remind you that many brides use a necklace belonging to their mother, MIL, or other female relative or friend as their "something borrowed."  Does anyone you know have a beautiful necklace like the one I described that you could borrow?

  3. I personally don't think pearls would work, I think something like simple, but definitely should have white gold/silver look to it.

By the way... Your dress is gorgeous!

  4. You don't need anything big or gaudy, just something very simple that will just add a little bit something more and more complement the dress than take away from it or be hidden by it.

I would suggest a small string of diamonds or pearls, or a combination of both, with some detailing where it hangs, like it hangs a bit or has a dangling bead or pearl - just something to add a little touch so its not a straight necklace. Since your neckline is straight across I think it would look best to have the necklace not straight.

Hope this helps. Mostly you just need to shop around and see what you like and what looks the best to you.

  5. Well you can do what they have the modle in, not necklace, but large chandelier earrings.

for a necklace, scale down the earing size and I would do with either a round almost chocker style or a v shaped necklace.

for color and style go with what your ring color is so yellow gold or white gold/silver to match.

for the stone, I cant quite tell what the dress is.  You can do soemthing to match in both crystals and pearls, only pearls for a classic look, and you can neer go wrong with diamonds/crystals for a sparkle.  Take a photo of the dress with you and go shopping and try some thigns.

  6. With that neckline you will want to go with something short, not a choker but right on your collarbone.

Diamonds or peals would look gorgeous. You can also look at swarovski crystal, no one will know that it's not diamonds and they have beautiful pieces for weddings.

  7. I would definitely play up the crystals that are on the bodice of the dress. A simple neclace of them, with some small drop earrings would be fabulous. If you want to go a little more ornate, since the dress is already, fine. But don't go with something big and ornate, or risk walking down the aisle looking like a Xmas tree.

Is that gold on the dress? If so, you could just use some gold jewelry, if you want. Again, not too ornate. For your dress, since it has that little dip in the bodice, and that down ward turn at the waist, I would definetly choose a pendant, a sparkly one since the area where the ribbons come together at the front looks like a pendant.

I went to the Knot, and looked up jewelry. There is some suggestions there about how to pick jewelry for the neckline of the dress. Didn't necessarily agree, but it is there. Also went to the bottom of the page, and clicked on jewlery, and necklaces and earings, and got one page. The top row on the right is a crystal pendant. Very pretty, and about as ornate as I would pick when picking out jewelry for that dress.

The trick to picking out something is to maximize the neckline, V-neck, you want something in the shape of a v. Round? stick with round. A nice rule for good taste is to try to get the neclace to end about half way between your neck and the dress, in order to fill the neckline, and that  includes the length of the pendant. Someone with a deep vee neck, wanting to look s**y would choose a pendant that went low, and into the cleavage.

Look around, there are all kinds of jewelry sites online, on all the bridal sites, and more. Get some basic ideas, and go forth and check out what the department stores have.

Years ago, when I was a teen, my Mother gave me an aurora borialis necklace, and I was informed it was "a good one" I suspect it was intended for my eventual wedding. It has diamond shaped crystals of graduated sizes, and is adjustable. I still have it, and it is slated for a remake, to make it more modern. I went and bought good crystals to make earrings with, since Mother did not think to buy any. It is still in style, after all these years.

By the way, that is a pretty dress. Good luck with the jewelry hunt, and the wedding.

  8. My mom actually has a jewelry business, she has access to like 60 different manufacturers and can get you whoseale or very close to whoseale price. Her email is tcaplan@gmail.com if you're interested. I don't know where you live, but she's had costumers from out of state before and she was happy to ship it to them.

  9. if you want to wear jewelry i would were something very simple with that dress... i had a dress sort of similar and i wore a strand of pearls... but with that dress i would wear a simple small pendant (a solitaire pendant either pearl or gemstone of choice) like necklace or small (one strand 4-6mm) pearl choker length necklace.

nothing too big or flashy would be my choice because the dress has all the flash already... ;)

    good luck

  10. That bodice has a lot going on, so keep jewellery simple. Go with yellow gold, of course -

This might be nice, with the first pair of earrings shown at the bottom -

  11. just my opinion, but i wouldn't wear a neckalce with that dress (gorgeous by the way)!

there is so much going on in the bodice that i think a necklace would draw away from it. i suggest a bare neck but maybe some big chandellier earrings (just like the model pic)

  12. According to Brides Connecticut magazine(Fall/Winter 2008), if you are wearing a strapless dress, you should "...opt for a substantial necklace that forms a seamless circle and lies flat and perfectly still against your skin.  Long, glamorous earrings that "move" are also recommended..."  They have a sapphire and diamond necklace shown with stones going all the way around(probably really pricey, but illustrates the idea nicely).

  13. With all of that beautiful detail on the bodice of the dress you really don't need much jewelry.  You could go with nothing if you wanted to save yourself the worry and money!  But if you really want a necklace go with something very simple.  Maybe like a thin white gold chain with a single pearl pendant that isn't too long.

    Have a wonderful wedding!

  14. Modern brides are not wearing jewelry anymore this season.

Your dress already has heavy beading and added adornments will be an overkill IMO.

    Good luck and congrats
