Where and how would I go about working with an established wedding planner to get some experience? I am looking to pursue a career in this industry and am looking for a mentor to guide me for an extended amount of time (2 years). I am located in So. NH.

  1. Just get a job doing it.  Work your way up.  A mentor for an extended period of time is going to depend on personalities.  You can't just select a mentor.  You either like each other and want to help each other out--or you don't.

Contact some in the area and let them know of your interests.  An older person who is thinking of retirement might like to sell her business after a couple years.  Or a place that is too busy might want to take on a partner.  Otherwise few would like to show you all their tricks of the trade and add to their competition, especially if you are talking about staying in the area and directly competing with them.
