Wedding Reception Questions?

So I know I can create some nice lighting effects for my reception however I saw some more elaborate techniques and may have someone (lighting specialists) do it. Does any know or dealt with this type of business and if so how costly and how affordable can it be. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. Lighting effects are fun- IF done well by an experienced pro, in which case they can be very expensive. In one of the weddings I attended, they had a very low-light (candle-light type) reception with a big screen tv playing a show made from still pictures of the couples' dating days. They had the show custom-made for them, with choreographed music and actions which made the pictures almost come alive on the screen. I think it had cost them less than $200 to get it done professionally, and it was so unique and gorgeous! They got it from www.smilingsnaps.com and I have plans of doing something similar for an upcoming event. Hope this helps.

  2. They have event lighting designers. You can look in your local yellow pages under lighting - I am sure that it will point you in the right direction.

A lot of places know how to design and place the lights just right in order to give it a special look. I think it is something that you could probably do yourself if you are creative and play around with some lighting. I've heard that they can get very expensive. But you never know - the best way to find out is to call around and ask.

Here is a website you can look at. It might give you some ideas for lighting:

  3. You can hiring lighting companies to come in and do certain types of lighting, but you need permission from the location first.

    It can be very expensive.

  4. It's usually very costly. Unless you have an unlimited budget, I would spend the money on food or drink first. Your guests will hardly notice these little touches, but they will remember what they ate and drank. Give them the highest quality you can afford in those areas, even if it means cutting out things like a lighting designer.

But, if you have the money to pay for both, then go for it!
