Do you think having dancers and a comedian at the wedding reception is a good idea or way over the top?

Way over the top.  People go to a wedding to celebrate the married couple, not to be entertained by various acts.  Sounds too much like a cruise ship show.  The bride and groom's first dance shouldn't be overshadowed by professional dancers.

I think a performer, probably a singer would be best, and a DJ.

it is entirely your choice, i think it would be nice to have a different kind of entertainment instead of the traditional disco/karaoke

i think it's great.. Yet i have been told my reception is more like a mini fair!

Rock climing wall, dunk tanks, poker tent, bingo tent, hawaiian dancers, lawn games, and anything else i can think of!

I say it's your day do what YOU want reguardless if it is or isn't over the top!

completely unnecessary.  you don't have to entertain people at your wedding- you the bride are the entertainment.  forget having a theme or other fringe entertainment, just have food and cake and booze and music.

this is a wedding not a variety show.

stick to the norm.

as a wedding guest, I would not like to have to sit through entertainment.....

i think that it is a bit much and i don't think you'd have to spend money on that; as long as you get a DJ. however dancers or a singer is cool and if you know your guest will enjoy that type of entertainment i think it would be a great idea.

As for the comedian; i don't think that would be a good idea, you don't want anyone to get offended by any jokes he/she may make. Some people are sensitive to certain issues and you just dont want that at your wedding. Plus I'd feel like a comedian will take away from the real reson why everyone is there to celebrate your wedding day.
