Ok so my dads good friend is getting married in two week and the rehearsal dinner is next friday. My dad is in the wedding party as a groomsman so he has to go to the rehearsal wedding. But his family [myself and my mom] are invited to the Rehearsal dinner.

The last time i went to a wedding i was 4, so i am wondering what I need to wear and what the whole "rehearsal dinner" is about?

Thanks! : ]

  1. Here is a nice article that will tell you what to expect at the rehearsal dinner. A lot of people don't do it anymore. But it is a good time for both families to bond.

  2. Hey! Rehersal dinners are so much fun and so laid back!

Wear a spring/summer dress with cute heals! Something not too formal but nice.

They will practice the ceremony with everyone there..then I think of it as pre-gaming it..

    Have fun!

  3. The rehearsal dinner is just after the quick run through of the wedding & good time just to talk and hopefully help the bride and groom out with what to expect on the big day!  For the rehearsal do not overdress, yet do not dress in shredded jeans and rock some greasy hair... Dark jeans and a polo shirt or shirt and vest usually do the trick in a situation like this.  Its gonna be prime time for visiting.  Just enjoy the good food and good conversation.

Sorry I assumed you were a boy!  Hopefully you are.  But if you are a girl, keep it casual but not too casual!

  4. Wear clothes that you would normally wear when going out to a nice restaurant.

The rehearsal dinner is smaller and quieter than the wedding reception.  A time for the closest friends and relatives to celebrate.

  5. The rehearsal dinner follows the wedding ceremony rehearsal at the church.  It's generally a really nice and fun dinner where the whole wedding party (and guests) can get together.  The ones I've been to have been fun.

You should wear a nice summer (I assume you're in the US and it's hot weather-pardon me if I'm wrong) dress, nothing too fancy or too casual.  This is not a 'flip-flop' affair either.  Dress like you're going out for a nice dinner.

  6. Rehearsal dinners take place after the run-through of the wedding ceremony and the wedding party, their significant others, and out of town family are invited.  It's just a way to unwind before the actual wedding is here and a nice way to welcome the out of town family that flew/drove/took a train in.

At all rehearsal dinners you will find that there is a WIDE range of what people wear.  If you can find out where the dinner will be held, I think that would be the most helpful information because if it's a nice restaurant, then you'll want to wear something a little more dressy (darker colors, lower hemline) but it it takes place earlier in the day and at a casual restaurant, a summer dress will work.  Also, if your mom is going you can find out what she is wearing and go with a similar style.

  7. It varies according to the dinner and the setting. Some are so casual that jeans work; some require suits, ties and dressy clothing for the ladies - nice dresses and such.

You need some more information which your dad is required to give you. It's in the Dad Handbook ;)

  8. wear a nice dress, nothing overly fancy but a bit dressy.

A rehearsal dinner is just a dinner for the bride, grooms, families and wedding aprty to attend before the wedding.
