Wedding Ring fell between deck boards (3/8" apart), can't reach it! Help!?

My wooden deck's beams are about 3/8" apart and my wedding ring fell right between the beams!

Luckily about 6" down the roof of the unit below us begins (so i can see the ring if i look between the beams).

Unfortunately I don't know what tool i can use to grab it (I have one of those tools that pick up screws, but the width is too big.... i am going to try to purchase a smaller one today).

The ring is titanium...... any suggestions?

  1. Use a wooden dowel rod (available at hobby supply stores and probably Lowe's or Home Depot), and some kids' sticky clay. Duct sealer clay from Lowe's is also very sticky. Stick some clay to the end, and push the rod down to stick the ring to the end of it. When the ring is raised near the deck, carefully work a hook fashioned from wire or coat hanger through it so you can pull it back through the crack.

  2. Wire with a hook shape at the end...coat hanger, copper wire,

    Titanium isn't attracted to magnetism.

    Have fun fishing.

  3. Have you tried chewing gum on a stick?

  4. as long as there is no fear of ring dropping further-use small stick and gum-or cut a section out big enough to get hand in-or remove plank

  5. You could try the dowel rod with a sticky end and hooking it with the coat hanger when it's in the air but I don't think it's going to angle correctly sitting on the hook for you to be able to slide it through a 3/8' opening. You don't have a lot of room so you might try to use the sticky stick once it's on the coat hanger and pull it straight up.

Can you remove a deck board?

  6. coat hanger with come blutack or chewing gum on the end

  7. Hi, on the end of a screwdriver put blutack press onto ring and presto it's out, blutak is what you put onto walls etc and peel off afterwards

  8. Anything happens, I  get the job done by putting to use either the kitchen knife or the coat-hanger wire. See if you can employ any of these. Besides, you are worried way too much more than some other people whose marriages themselves are going down the drain without giving them any concern. Wedding ring is only a symbol of your bond. Take good care of the bond itself and get good satisfaction from the job well done.

  9. remove one deck board to get at it.  good luck

  10. One possible way is to buy a spoke that is used in bicycle wheels make a small hook on one end and try to fish  it out, if this doesn't work try using 2 spokes one from each side.

  11. Simple and safe is always the best route. Don't take chances with your ring. Remove a deck board and reach in there and grab it, and put on your finger. In my business we fish for dropped items all of the time and it never works out well if you poke around. I hope that this helps and you recover your ring. Good Luck!
