Wedding bells ring for Mohammed Asif amid controversies - Valima ceremony tomorrow
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391, will be having his wedding celebrations this week in Lahore. Even though, he has been provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing fiasco first revealed by British tabloid “News of The World”, he isn’t letting that affect his wedding festivities.
The 27-year-old’s suspension came after NoTW claimed that he had deliberately bowled no-balls during Pakistan’s last Test match against England at Lords. Two other players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard finishes its investigation.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Asif is getting married to Sana Hilal of Karachi, who is reported to be one of his close friends. “I hope this marriage will be the turning point of my career and it would change my life in a positive way,” Asif said on a local TV channel. Several members of the Pakistan cricket team along with Salman and Aamir are also expected at the Valima ceremony, which will be held on 1st October 2010. “Asif is quite relaxed and hopeful that he will be cleared of spot-fixing charges. He hopes that his wedding will bring luck for him,” said a family friend, who didn’t want his name to be disclosed.
Ever since his debut in 2005, Asif's career has been marred with controversies. He twice failed in the dope test and was tested positive for a banned steroid. In 2006 also, he was banned from playing international cricket for one year but this decision was later overturned on his appeal. Asif was at it again when he was dope tested positive for the third time during the 2008 IPL season, this time his appeal against a one-year ban failed. It seems that he never learns from his mistakes. Asif was arrested at the Dubai airport for possessing drugs while returning from the IPL. He was kept under detention for 19 days but was later deported after Dubai Police decided not to pursue his case due to "insufficient" quantity of drugs in his possession.
More scandals came into his already scandalous life when the actress, model and ex-girlfriend, Veena Malik claimed that Asif owed her huge sums of money. She also accused him of match-fixing and said that she had sufficient evidence to prove her claim. In the wake of spot-fixing allegations against Asif, ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit took serious notice of Veena’s claim. In the backdrop of all this dogged history, Asif now welcomes his newlywed Sana Hilal with open arms.
Sana is said to be Asif’s own choice, hence a love marriage. The news came as a surprise as earlier Asif was dating Veena. In fact, last May there were reports that both have secretly got married in England. Moreover, it is not just the scandals and controversies that keep Asif in the news rather it’s his mystical bowling also that makes him a hot favorite for media. Mohammed Asif is said to be a ‘thinking bowling’ – an intelligent bowler, who keeps the batsmen guessing. Few Pakistani fast bowlers have this quality.
He doesn’t beat the batsmen by pace – rather it’s his accuracy and death bowling that does the trick. Keeping the controversies aside, Asif’s absence from the team is certainly being felt.
