  1. If you did a dense mud cake this would save costs as you could provide smaller pieces.

Also, square cakes serve more people than round cakes, which is handy to know because you will save money with a square cake.

I think a mud cake would be more affordable than the traditional fruit cake because there are fewer and less expensive ingredients.

    EDIT

Sorry, forgot about your Q about Grooms' cakes. I think this is pretty much an American tradition. I live in Australia and NO-ONE has grooms cakes. Honestly I think it's a little ridiculous and a waste of money. Just have the one wedding cake.

  2. A groom's cake is NOT necessary...It's an "extra" in my opinion.

We had a cake in the shape of a big red apple (because we got engaged in New York), and the flavour was vanilla raspberry swirl

  3. having a cake all together is dumb. just a waste of money. how many people honestly eat wedding cake.

but if you want then i would go with vanilla and chocolate, that way people will eat it because you just cant go wrong with those 2 combos.

  4. you should do a vinalla cake with either chocolate or vanilla frosting.. sounds so yummy..

    <answer one of my ?'s>

  5. Do cream cheese filling. Extra rich and cheap.

And you totally don't need a groom's cake.

  6. mine was three teirs

    chocolate...white...all spice

my man said no filling...but I would have had

    chocolate with raspberry

    white with lemon

    all spice with butter pecan

  7. If you are getting married in Jamaica, then you should go with semi tropical flavors, such as coconut or pineapple (vanilla cake with fruit inside or between layers) you also want a light colored cake since you are doing a bold color frosting....Happy Wedding to you!

  8. You shoud color coordinate your cake to the wedding colors. I would go with an angel cake with strawberry filling =]. but you can always fill it with a vanilla cream or something cause strawberry is good but I dont think you wanna stain your dress lol good luck =]

  9. I'd do the traditional chocolate, white, and then something different like red velvet or carrot cake or something, with regular buttercream icing. Sure to be a crowd pleaser! =)

    I wouldn't mess with a groom's cake -- I didn't!

  10. We're doing chocolate cake with cappuccino filling.  and no groom's cake.

  11. Just pick something that both your fiance and you like to share. Don't worry too much about what others will say.

We had a beautiful white sea shell theme, very simple with swirls and real sea stars and shells (we washed/sterilized them of course).  I just dropped off a bunch of shells and the cake topper and they decorated it for me.

The inside was chocolate cake with cherry filling our favorite and I do not regret picking it (even though my mom thought it should have been white). We ended up getting extra white sheet cakes so non-chocolate lovers could have dessert too.

  12. Oooooooh! You should totally do a rum cake to add some of the Jamaica flare! Fill it with a tropical fruit filling.

Or a vanilla pudding batter with coconut filling.

It's not neccessary to have a groom's cake, in fact, I've never seen it.

  13. Italian Cream Cake (yum!).  You don't have to have a grooms cake unless you want to.

    There is a recipe here:

  14. I didnt have a groom's cake...umm I had Bavarian cream in mine with a white cake...yummy!

  15. My opinion is that whatever you pick, keep it simple.  That way more people will enjoy it.  I would probably go with a vanilla and strawberry mix, even though I am a huge chocolate lover, but I am having a small wedding so I want to please the majority of my guests.

P.S.  Nope, not necessary to have a grooms cake, unless he will be disappointed without it.

  16. A large cake with off white icing. Then with more icing, put vines with leaves wrapping around it.http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
