Question:

Wedding cake sits out until we're ready to eat it?

At my reception, will my cake sit on the cake table until we're ready to eat it, or does someone bring it out when we're ready to cut it? It'll be indoors and it's really pretty; I just want to show it off without grossing people out.

  1. Of course you let it sit there on the table so everyone can admire it before it is cut.  If you spend that much money on something so beautiful, you definitely want to show it off as long as possible before it's gone forever!  It will be fine at an indoor reception for a few hours before being cut.

  2. You can do either but most weddings I have been to and including my own the cake sits out until you get ready to cut it.

  3. It sits out the entire reception until after it is cut.

  4. i would leave it out if you want to show it off.  people won't think its gross to leave it out that is what people expect.  or if you want to surprise them with your fabulous cake then hide it until about 2 minutes before you want to bring it out and then have you DJ make a really big deal about it and then bring it out and cut it then people won't think that it is gross that it wasn't left out.  good luck

  5. it stays out until you cut it.  if you're serving your cake for dessert, you'll usually do the cake cutting ceremony after the salad is served so the staff has time to cut the rest of the cake and plate it for the guests.  no one will be grossed out...where else would they put it?  most cakes are iced in buttercream which is meant to stand up to conditions...so even if your reception was outside, you'd be ok!

  6. The wedding cake will be left out and on display during the reception until it is time to eat it...

cake is not like other foods...unless it's covered in pure, real whipped cream, which will break down without refrigeration,(most cakes are now a non-dairy whipped topping that looks/tastes like whipped cream but isn't and doesn't pose a health risk should it be left out of refrigeration for a few hours) and as long as it's not in direct sunlight or exposed to prolonged heat, will be fine out of refrigeration for several hours....

  7. There's nothing gross about the cake sitting out.  Our baker brought the cake to the reception hall the morning of the wedding and we didn't eat it until after 6:00.  No one was grossed out and the cake tasted great!

  8. unless its an icecream cake, youll be fine leaving it out.

  9. It depends on the icing. If it's fondant (most cakes are) then it's meant to sit out and it's served that way. If it's whipped cream then you have to serve it chilled. Confirm with the bakery.
