Question:

Wedding caramel apples?

My wedding is in October and I saw this really pretty thing in a magazine where they made caramel apples and used reall sticks from trees for the sticks and put them on a pretty platter. The thing is, how many should I make for 200 guests. In reality, many people wont eat caramel apples at a wedding reception because they can be messy...and the grandma's (who have dentures) definately wont eat them! Some people LOVE caramel apples (or will be bringing children who cant resist them!) We're going to use the caramel wraps, so its not too gooey. We will have about 175 guests. How many apples should we make? 50, 25, more than that? Would you eat a caramel apple, take it home or leave them for the kids? This is just an extra little pretty thing Im doing for the buffet. Im also making a white pumpkin dip, to be served out of a white pumpkin. The apples are not a favor, just an addition to the desserts (wedding cake, grooms cake cupcakes, pumpkin dip) we have favor boxes full of candies for the favors

  1. So happy for you! A fall wedding is the best, my wedding was in October as well.

I think that making 100 ( with some help from friends a few nights before) would be good. People will see them and want to take them home.

I'm sure your aware, but Martha Stewart had a good recipe and presentation for carmel apples. She used fall leaves to place each apple on top of. Search her site for decorating ideas, even in the thanksgiving section should help.I used her ideas alot for my fall wedding and it worked out beautifully.

One tip I'd like to pass along since you mentioned having kids there. At my wedding we had about 5 kids, so what I did was bought trick or treat bags ( our wedding was on the 4th of October) and filled it with games and toys, books and crayons, some treats( I tried to use only healthy snacks, and maybe slipped a few cookies in,We didnt' want the kids eating too much sugar at the reception) and added a few halloween toys and decorations. It was like getting a loot bag from a birthday party and they all loved it.

    Best of luck!

  2. Try daffyapples.com They were affordable and could be delivered within a week of the event. They sell bulk caramel I believe in the event you want to DIY. Good luck!!!

  3. This months Family Fun magazine had directions for making mini caramel apples in it.  These might be better for you to serve at the wedding - they even have them displayed in the mini truffle cups!  They sound very simple - the directions use a melon baller to make the mini apples.  I'm sure you can find the directions on the website.  If you have the magazine (or can find one to buy) they are on page 34.  I'd think your menu sounds great - fall is one of my favorite times to plan parties and such because there is such great foods in season then!

  4. While it's a cute idea, I wouldn't make any more than 50.  I know that, for me, there is no way I could eat a caramel apple with all the dental work I have had.  However, it would be really cute on the table.

I think kids would like it, but it would be kind of messy.

  5. You need to make one for each invited guest (whether it's your 175 or 200 number). If grandma isn't going to eat the apple, she's going to take one home for her grandson, Tommy.

The mini ones the other person mentioned are a good idea, but would have to be made the day before -

  6. I think you should make at least 75 (its not for everyone)

that's a really cute idea.  Congrats

  7. If they are meant as favors, you should have 1 per guest regardless of whether they will eat it or not, they can always give it to someone else.

If you have other favors and this is an extra I would say 50-75

  8. We had bride and groom candy apples at our reception from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory.  They were delicious.  We only had 30 made, but had a guest list of just 50.  We had left overs, because a lot of people have health problems or can't eat them with their teeth.

We had to order them ahead of time, but they were really cute.  I'll look for a pic.  You have to order them in store only.

    Congrats and best wishes!

  9. Wow that all sounds amazing. Can I come? LOL I would say make about 75-100 because a lot of people will probably want to take it home, I know I would!
