We ve been engaged for two years proposal was kinda of a whim he did it in mexico . I was still in uni and we d built up alot of debts living on one wage ( we ve always loved our holidays its our favourite thing together ) we don't have fancy home , new cars or latest technology its all on holidays .

So it comes to where to have wedding am not close to cousins aunties etc so don't see why I should invite people like that my family is 8 and his 5 so small . I have a kinda aunty and her children who are like cousins but they have about 14 kids between them and don't want them all at my wedding if I have it at home I know I ll be expected too but I d rather spend on friends who come to see me .

I really want to get married outside no indoors for me and like all brides I want the weather . Just want a small ceremony near the sea thats special .

I ve been with my partner 9 years so its not all about the wedding we are very committed to each other but we are skint and we have to pay for all of it and I mean we have no money saved and am on temp contract so that could end soon .

I really don't know where to get married his parents won't travel outside europe and I haven't been to many places within that area except cyprus but we found it too commercial .

I know people say home is better as you share it with friends but feel if I get married at home i won't have wedding I want. I wouldn't be able to afford to feed all my friends so would have to only invite some to evening reception anyway . Read on here that some people get pissed off not being invited to day reception and only being invited to evening receptionof wedding abroad so they wouldn't be happy either way if you look at it like that .

so should we just get married abroad as it's destinations that we love but where we really wanna do it ut money and our lack of making a decision keeps stopping us from booking it .

  1. if your family and friends know that you love travelling then it will come as no surprise to them that you want to get married abroad. Some people may not be too pleased but they will get over it when you remind them that it's all about you and your future husband.

The destination is a personal thing... I know you said you don't like Cyprus but there are many different sides to Cyprus, the mountains are off the beaten track and are popular for weddings.

Keep looking online, or talk to a travel agent, you'll find your perfect spot somewhere :)

  2. Hi there

I so understand where you are coming from and think you should definitely get married overseas to a) avoid hassle of upsetting anyone and b) it IS cheaper to just have a few friends/family to a tiny wedding which can be SO special in Cyprus.

A couple of friends got married last year here on the west of island in Latchi (45 mins from Paphos - NOT commercial and SO idyllic). Yes they were living here but you could do the same.

Just book a low cost hotel/apartment/even a villa for a group of you (may be cheaper), arrange for the local mayor to come to your wedding venue (my friends got married in a beach front taverna!), have a low cost reception at the taverna and, if money allows, book a boat for a sunset cruise afterwards.

You can see pictures and get more info about what's involved ref paperwork (it's easy for Brits in Cyprus!) on the following websites (+ also get other ideas on how to keep your wedding low cost!)

Best wishes for a great wedding!
