Question:

Wedding dress color issue?

I am getting married next summer on the beach and have purchased a dress online that was inexpensive since we are paying for most of the wedding ourselves. The dress I bought is an off-white color - more yellow-y than most off-white dresses. Now we are trying to decide what my fiance will wear.

We already purchased a pair of light tan linen pants for him, but realized that a white shirt (which we had originally planned on) will not look right against my off-white dress (due to the shade, it would be very noticable). I saw a beach wedding on TV the other day where the groom wore similar pants and a white shirt and it was a nice, clean look.

Here is my dilemma: I can return the dress and get the same style in a true white for $25 more. I had purchased the off-white because I thought it would look better with my skin tone, but if I am tan for the wedding, I think the true white would be ok.

Would you get the white dress or try to find another shirt for him to wear? Accent colors will be pink and green, so I thought about a light green, but really like the look of the white shirt.

  1. I would get the white dress for $25 more. It would be easier to match his shirt than a yellowy ivory color. In the long end you might be happier. The only people that white doesn't really look that good on is really white people. Like freckles and pinky skin. I am Italian and olive colored but not very tanned and my white dress looks very nice against my skin. I think white would look good with green and pink too. If you want to stick with the off-white dress and can't find a shirt to match, you could do an entire tan linen suit for him. That would look nice. The grromsmen could then have tan linen pants with shirts to match the bridesmaid's dresses (no suit jacket). Do you have a picture online of your dress? Good luck!
