Question:

Wedding dress suggestions for short girls?

Can anybody suggest a style that would look good on a short large-chested girl?

I'm 5'1" and I'm very slim everywhere, except in the chest area. My chest is large compared to my body, so every single dress that I've tried on makes me look like I'm drowning in it.

  1. You and I are in the same boat, I am 5'2 and the twins are always ready to party.... lol I chose a halter dress and it was pretty flattering. Try an A-line style as well. Anything too poofy will look terribly wrong on shorties like us!

  2. I am in the same boat as you.  I did purchase my dress from David's Bridal. I tried on a halter gown but it just didn't flatter me due to too much cleavage. I ended up going with a strapless gown, a-line style.  Because of my chest I had small straps put into them and it looks absolutely gorgeous. It even made my chest look smaller. I am happy about that.  Good luck on your search.

  3. Do an A-line with the laces in the back. You can cinch up the dress tight were you need it and loose everywhere else.  It will flatter your waist and your chest. If you are looking for a gown you can try www.shellyleppertdesigns.com they have some A-line dresses at great prices.

  4. Something with a well fitting halter top. Little to no train on the dress. Short and open at the shins

  5. Have you tried a ballgown-style dress? The skirt might help balance out the top. My FSIL, at 5'2" wore a ballgown dress (or, as she called it, a princess dress) and it looked great on her.

I'm also going to make my pitch for princess seams and a sleeveless dress again, if you want to try and minimize the appearance of your bust. Having transitions (such as the top of a strapless dress) right above your bust will make it stand out more, just like an empire waist. And princess seams are wonderful. I fell in love with them when I needed the shaping, and have never found a reason to give them up.

  6. Go A-line and something with a supportive top.  Depening on exactly how large your chest is, you can do strapless or something in the halter/strapped style.  You can always go into a bridal store and have them help you find dresses that will be flattering...not quite flaunting lol.  I know how you feel, I'm 5'2 and rock the same body type you have.  Go figure it'd be hard to have b***s when we're this short.

  7. Go with a classic style, along the more elegant silhouette -

This last one is just lovely, and would depend upon how it would fit you uptop -

  8. My 5'0" busty future SiL wore a princess-style thin strapped ballgown with 2" heels and she looked amazing.

My BFF is 5'2" with Cs and she just got married in a strapless, a-line with diagonal pleats on the bodice. Her dress was not as flattering because it basically created a shelf for her b***s.

Ask the shop to make some recommendations, usually they are pretty good at this ( =

    Good luck!

  9. LOL! I know how you feel. I've actually resorted to getting a bra that pushes up and smushes the b***s so that they don't look like they are suffocating me. Don't get a poofy gown, they make you look shorter. I looked like a midget trying on a poofy dress!

  10. Off-the-shoulder gowns look wonderful on a full bust. It draws our attention upward, emphasizes the shoulders and minimizes the chest. Keep your skirt narrow. Wearing a full skirt will make you look large both on top and bottom.

    Hope this helps!  Congrats!

  11. i WOULD suggest a ballgown to balance you out like a previous answerer, but those will make you look shorter. i suggest a sheath/empire or mermaid. the long lines will make you look taller. A-line would be okay too. but your best bet is a sheath. it will make you look longer and show off your slim build. you should find a dress with straps, it will keep the girls in place !!

  12. I'm a short bride too!  I found this article helpful:

    http://weddingbells.ca/articles/article/...

But don't let "rules" dictate what you will try.  I had always heard that short people should avoid mermaid styles, but I tried some one and LOVE the look!  The dress I'm having made for me is a mermaid style - who cares what rules say?

I would suggest going to a small wedding store (not a chain) where the sales people are experts and asking them to pull some styles they suggest for you.  I did this and that's how I found the style I love, looks great on me and am going have for my dress. The sales women know what works and have seen brides of all shapes and sizes, so trust their suggestions, even if they go again the "rules" you will hear for what short brides should wear.

Go in with some ideas of what you want (lace, pink accents, long train, etc) and they will pull great stuff!

I also recommend an empire waist.  It creates a long line along your body, it works really well for shirt brides, especially if you have a chest.  It gives you support and then there is no seam at your waist to break up your height.

    Good Luck!
