  1. If you're doing a tea-length dress, you must do some awesome shoes. I just love that look so much!

David's Bridal has some really cute tea-length dresses, check out that website.

Do some shoes in a different color like red or pink to really pop. The summer '09 Brides magazine cover featured a bride with a white dress and hot pink platform pumps ... it was awesome and looked amazing.

Keep your jewelery simple. You don't need to have the pearl necklace, and the diamond bracelet, and the tiara and the earrings. Pick one, maybe two, and keep it simple. Make the focus you, not your bling.

I also wouldn't do a veil (or if you really want one, do a short one, or a cage veil). I think it would take away from your overall silhouette if you're in a short dress.

    Hope that helps!

  6. Think bridesmaid dresses, even just formal dresses from a department store.

  7. Many of the dresses at J.Crew come in knee- or floor-length. They are gorgeous.

Scroll to the bottom of the page for lots of options in white/ivory:

  8. I would urge you not to just pooh-pooh every traditional wedding dress. You might try one on just to find that you love it!

You could do something non-traditional with colour also. Remember Gwen Stefani's pink wedding dress? That was absolutely beautiful.

  9. I didn't want the 'traditional' wedding dress either; I found a tea length dress w/handkerchief hemline that was beautiful. I also wore a hat that I embellished myself. Chadwicks has some cute dresses; know people who have ordered their wedding apparel from there. Wait til you find just the right dress before you shop for accessories. Good luck!

  12. when you look at dresses, don't confine yourself to just the "wedding dress" section. check out the formals for other ocassions. i wanted something different as well and ended up buying a regular formal gown, not specifically designed to be worn by a bride. not to mention it was several hundred dollars cheaper. lol

  13. I bought mine at Jessica McClintock.  They have some really cute knee length dresses if you look under bridal but also look at bridesmaids.  Some of the cutest dresses I tried on were bridesmaids dresses & available in white or ivory.

  16. I'll put in two cents worth because a year ago my cousin got married and wore the most fabulous dress, albeit long and with a train. It was adorned with white feathers, very delicate and not at all flashy or gaudy. The pictures don't really show the feathers, but it looks like a subtle aura around her.

  17. get one made that way you get exactly what you want.

  18. Look at bridesmaids dresses. Most if not all of them come in white and have lots of different ideas in styles and lengths.

Maybe look at Davids Bridal or Alfred Angelo to get an idea of what you like.

    Good Luck!
