Wedding gift help for friend who is into quality?

A good old friend of mine has just told me she is getting married this weekend. I would really like to get her something nice. She already has a house all set up. She is also very practical and a great cook and has loads of kitchen gadgets. She likes good quality as well. And she is about to have her first baby. I was thinking of getting her the new Jamie Oliver dinnerware as it is oven/dishwasher/microwave/freezer safe. I thought it practical for family use. It is a bit ugly though. She already has nice dinnerware/cutlery etc. help. I don't want to spend too much. I also think sheets and towels are a bit boring. Any other ideas?

  1. How about a gift certificate to Williams-Sonoma?  They have some awesome kitchen gadgets, and everything there is of the highest quality.  You could spend as much or as little as you want/can afford, and she can find something she wants or needs!

  2. Tablecloth and napkins? Or does that come under boring like sheets and towels? There's a lot of different options - you can get her a formal set, you can get her one for every day, you can get her one for having the girls over. And with little kids she's going to need a lot more napkins than she has.

  3. If she is really into cooking then I would avoid getting her kitchen stuff.  Because she probably already has it or she would rather pick it out herself because she knows what she wants.

I think something for her baby would be nice.  I know it's a wedding, but if she already has a lot of house stuff, then it would be more practical to get her something she might NEED, like baby stuff.

If not, get her something more decorative (like candlesticks or something), just to be sure you won't buy something she already has/doesn't need.  And it won't cost you a ton of money to buy something decorative that is nice/good quality.

    Good Luck!

  4. why not get a gift voucher to her favourite shop.. and then offer your services for when the baby comes along...eg:  housework for her, watch the baby while she has a sleep, or offer to cook dinner for her and her partner one night...

to a new mum sometimes just a little help is hard to ask for but if the offer is there up front it shouldn't be so bad....

  5. How about a really nice picture frame, possibly one you can have personalized with their monogram or their wedding date?  That way it's something they can use and appreciate, and it's personal.

  6. I'm not a fan of giving baby gifts for weddings, however a gift people tend ot overlook is maternity clothes.  It is for the pregnancy and will be needed but the gift is still for HER and focused on HER.  You could find a really nice maternity dress if she likes dresses, or maybe a nice outift.  OR just a gift certificate to a nice maternity store.

I do like your jamie oliver idea though.

  7. Your Jamie Oliver idea is perfect.  It is practical, good quality, and family friendly.  If you get her a platter or oval dish that isn't too big, she could use it for anything, anytime.  A great serving dish is always welcome in a well equipped kitchen.  It is so versatile it would become her favorite piece.  Good thinking on your part!

  8. Does she entertain?

Try a nice serving plate, chips and dip sets are also nice

  9. Greenbacks are an East Coast wedding (special event)tradition.  Give dollars.  The current modern alternative is gift cards.  You can get them anywhere for anything.  Good luck to your friend and fiance.

  10. If they aren't registered anywhere I would go with potterybarn, I work there and I think the stuff they have is great, the other nice thing is that they have potterybarn kids, so if you were to get her a gift card she could use a portion for her and a portion for the baby.  Besides anything that they don't get, if they are registered there, they get 10% off if left on the registry and they can use the gift card toward it.  Williams Sonoma owns Potterybarn, so they would be able to use the gift card there too.
