Question:

Wedding in Vegas - marriage license?

This is probably a stupid question but I haven't been involved in wedding plannings before. I'm planning to get married in Vegas. I know I have to obtain a marriage license. When do I get that? Before or after the wedding? If before the wedding, how early should I get it? Where do I get it? Please give as much info as possible. I really have no clue what the background procedure is.

  1. You get your marriage license before the wedding at the Clark county recorder clerk's office in Vegas (you can get it the same day you're getting married, if you don't have time to get it beforehand). You fill it out; during the ceremony, the officiant and the witnesses will sign it, and it's the responsibility of the officiant to send the completed license back to the recorder clerk's office where your marriage will get recorded; you may elect to have them send you a paper marriage certificate in the mail.

I'm not sure what you mean by whether the marriage license is recognizable in Canada. The marriage license is something you get in the state you're getting married at that allows you to get married. Once you're married, your marriage is recognizable all over the world.

Look up "marriage license in Las Vegas" or "marriage license in Clark county" for more info.

You have to get the license before the marriage and bring it with you.  They have a form on there which you can print out beforehand so it speeds up the process once you are there.  It is usually recommended that you get it in plenty of time (usually the day before) since lines can be long there and you don't want to be late for your own wedding.

They offer all the details on that site if you have been divorced, are from another country, etc.

Congrats from one Vegas bride-to-be to another!

Getting married in LV is easy.  You have to have the license before anyone will marry you.  You apply at the court house.

Good luck and viva Las Vegas!

  4. Check out the state/county's requirements on their website.  They should have a list of forms, etc.

  5. Hey kiddo, wedding in Vegas eh!  I wish I could help you out but it seems everything I knew about Vegas, stayed in Vegas.  And by “stayed” I mean I can’t remember because I was so boozed up.

I’d look into marriage licenses up here in Ontario first.  I’m sure that in Vegas you can get the whole shebang done in one spot, but I’m not sure about the American license being transferable to a Canadian status, or even if that’s an issue.  I’d start by calling City Hall and shaking them down for info.

    Good luck and Congrads!

  6. I got married in Vegas and you go the the Clark County Court House before the ceremony. Your marriage will not be valid without the license. I am cutting and pasting info directly from there site below:
