I'm getting ready to address my invitations. Is there a free computer program or software where I can type my addresses and print them out on labels?

  1. Unfortunately, I do not have a suggestion for a computer program for nice fonts (although Microsoft Word has always been good to me). But rather, I have some advice:

    If you must print your addresses out on labels, please do them on clear labels. A white label on an off-white envelope would look really tacky =D

    Just a note: wedding etiquette states that the addresses should be handwritten. The only exception to this rule is if the addresser has illegible handwriting, and even then that person can ask someone they know (perhaps an attendant or a parent) with decent handwriting to address the invitations for them. If you know no one with decent handwriting, printing labels is acceptable. However, doing it just because "it's easier" or "it saves time" is a bit of a no-no.

  2. You need to hand write them in nice writing. Printed is not proper. If you can have them written in calligraphy that would be best

  3. Usually if you buy the labels it will give you a website that has the template. Or if you have MS Word they have the templates that co-inside with the template code given on the label package.

  4. For the love of god do not use address labels on your invitations!

    Is your wedding not an event worthy of handwriting the names of your guests?

    Oy!

  5. My handwriting is atrocious, so I printed them out. Printing may not be according to etiquette but they won't get there if the mailman can't read them, hahaha!

    If you get an Avery label (Target, Wal-Mart, Office Depot) their labels are pre-built into Microsoft word.  You just go to the wizards and it's called the Mailing Label Wizard.

    <File>

    <New>

    <Letters and Faxes>

    <Mailing Label Wizard>

  6. All the Avery labels have a website where you can download software.

    But, I highly recommend against this.  It just looks tacky. This will be the first thing that people see and will set the tone for the rest of your wedding.

    If you are having a backyard pot luck hoe-down and everyone will be in shorts and jeans, then it's fine.

    But, if you are having even a remotely formal affair, it simply isn't appropriate.

    If you will not handwrite them, then at least use a cursive font printed directly on the envelope.  And please, use the highest print setting on your printer.

    GL to you and your FI! : )

  7. It is considered good etiquette to hand write each invitation, without using abbreviations.

    You could probably use word or excel, however.

  8. I wrote mine out. I know a calligrapher can be expensive. I had divided my guest list and had my wedding party address the envelopes which had helped me a great deal.

  9. Go buy the blank sticky labels from Office Depot/Staples and it will come with a web link to download the proper template for Microsoft word.   It seems backwards to buy the labels before you type them out, but just buy the size that will fit on your invites and it will have everything you need to print them out once you open the package.

    Make sure to ask a store employee if they will work on your printer first.  Write down the make/model of your printer before you go, just to be sure.

    PS: You don't have to hand write out your return address labels, that is such a stupid etiquette rule meant to either make your hand hurt or spend more money that you need to on a calligrapher, especially if it's just for return address labels.

    God Luck!
