Question:

Wedding locations and custom dresses.?

My partner and I would like to have our wedding and reception in one place and the theme is slightly gothic. Not over the top, coffins and crosses stuff, more flamboyant and red and black themed. Having a little trouble finding a venue. We live in Grimsby (UK) and it needs to be fairly close to avoid travel problems. We would like a nice hotel or something. As long as it is a little more traditional and doesn't look like every other hotel function room you've ever seen.

Also, I have a very clear idea on how i want my dress and really don't think i'll find the perfect dress in the shops. It will be quite heavily corseted and look like something from around the early 19th century. Any ideas where i could find a dress or dressmaker and what sort of cost to expect?

Thanks in advance. :)

  1. do u want you want. in a yard or something

  2. Is there a castle nearby you? like leeds castle etc. Most dress shops do alternative dresses nowadays so have a look round and see what there is. and if you don't want to buy the dress how about renting the dress? alternatively look for prom type dresses as they are available in all colours and styles. x

  3. You can try www.shellyleppertdesigns.com. They can custom make you a dress for a great price. Or you can try www.etsy.com.

  4. I'm not sure how many people you intend to invite, so I'm not sure which hotel to suggest-- but if you search on Google, you are sure to find at least a few that fit your needs.  I particularly like this one from what you've said so far: http://www.millfieldshotel.co.uk/. It's traditional (which will look gorgeous with a 19th century dress) with a modern twist.  They even have a wedding pack if you'd like to check it out: http://www.millfieldshotel.co.uk/Weddinp...

In regards to having a dress made-- you don't know how great it is to have a definite idea of what you want!  That will make it way easier on any dressmaker.  I found this one on the internet: http://www.dressmakingdesign.co.uk/danna...  She gives a quote of around £1500-£2000, which seems pretty reasonable for custom-made, and she has examples on her website.  Don't forget to check for references-- if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Hopefully that'll be a good start for your venue and gown search-- your wedding sounds like it's going to be a really fun event!
