Wedding notice?

Ok I know heaps of people dont believe me, but me and my fiance have set our wedding date for December 19th 2009 (I will be 18) and we have a lot of family in different states. So we want to send a wedding notice (not invitations) just so they can look into flights to know if they can come or not. We need to get a basic number to let the caterers and other services know.

what are your thoughts on wedding notices?

are they common?

what should we write?

thanx heaps.

  1. Yep I am with everyone else. Send out save the date cards that way you give everyone ample warning to get ready or to think about if they are going to go or not. Check out this site!www.invitationsbydawn.com

  2. send out save the date cards, you can even make them yourself which will save you tons of money, it cost me about I would say with stamps and all probably $40 compared to the companies who want anywhere from $100-$300 for about 25, I sent over 50. Obviously this wont give you the exact number of people. Our said

                                      Save the Date

                                We're getting Married

                            John Smith and Joan Clark

                               December 19th, 2009

                                    Las Vegas, NV

                                  Invitation to Follow

thats an example, you can find other examples of how to word them on the internet, I found this was the simplest way to the point, I bought Ivory colored business cards, put a beautiful calla lily background, (b/c those were my flowers) I got some magnets that you peel off the paper and you can stick the business cards to and cut out, so that way the back is a magnet and your family can stick it right on their fridge when they get it. good luck...hope this helps, email me if you have any other questions

  3. The traditional wording for announcements is very simple. If the bride's parents do the announcing (in which case, they've asked you for a list of people to receive announcements), the wording is:

    Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Parents

    are pleased to announce

    the marriage of their daughter

    Melinda Sue

    and

    Mr. John Groom

    son of

Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Parents [mentioning his parents is optional]

on the twenty-second of June, nineteen hundred ninety-nine

    St. Stephen's Church

    Winona, Minnesota

To send the announcements in your own name, simply put your own names at the top, give your son's name first, and then put the information about his bride where the groom's information goes in the example above. If you have a more complicated situation, use the wording of the wedding invitation as your starting point.

Since announcements typically go to friends and family who are not in frequent contact with the happy couple, it is very helpful to include information on where the couple will live after marriage and what names they will use. Most invitation companies can provide an "at home" card, which is a small card designed just for this information. If this card isn't available or doesn't provide enough space, you can also have the information printed on a smaller-sized reception card- or on normal business cards, at any printing shop.

  4. I agree with everyone else -- get save the date cards. You can make them yourself, or try something like save the date magnets people can stick on their 'fridge.

You shouldn't send these out longer than 1 year before your wedding... Since your wedding will be close to the holidays though, I'd send it out around Dec 1, 2008.

As far as getting a basic number, the save the dates are NOT reply cards. You can't get a good idea of the number of people until you send out the invitations late next year and they send in their response cards. Until then, you'll have to estimate on the number.

  5. Wedding notice for out of state guests? Yes, thats a popular thing to do but theyre called Save the Date cards.

  6. You can get Save the Date cards.  They look just like postcards with all the information people would need..

  7. A wedding notice??  That's what most people call a Save the Date and they are very common.   Most couple will send them out and a few weeks later, send a packet with additional information on hotels in the area.

Go on TheKnot.com.  They have lots of examples of different Save The Date cards.

  8. A "save the date" card is the way to go to let everyone know when your dates are. HOWEVER, these generally do not include an RSVP - it's not really fair to ask your guests to commit so early. This will, however, let them begin to think about travel plans while ticket prices are cheaper.

You can find many many "save the date" options on the Internet - they can be as formal or as casual as you wish. A friend of mine sent a little card with a photo of her and her fiance jumping into a pool - the back said "We're taking the plunge! Suzie Smith and Bob Jones: July 26, 2009. New York, New York"

Your caterer should have no trouble accommodating your final numbers a month or so before the wedding - base your initial estimate on the number of invites, and then do a final count based on RSVPs. Caterers do this all the time, it should not be an issue.
