Question:

Wedding on wheels...wheelchair dilemma?

I have a friend getting married and she uses a manual wheelchair. We are looking for ways to avoid getting her dress caught in the wheels or the hem of her dress from getting dragged around and dirtied. An ideal situation would be for her to wear a simple white dress with no long trains but why should she have to settle for less than she wants, right? If anyone has been in this predicament or knows "unique" strategies to use, your help would be much appreciated!

  1. There are plenty of gorgeous and ornate dresses out there that are tea-length.  Perhaps a sheath style (narrow skirt) without all the extra fabric at the sides would work best.  I assume she won't be getting out of the wheelchair at any point with a walker, etc., correct?  I can't imagine she would want a train.  How about something like this?

  2. Have her sit in a chair or something on a carriage/trailer thing and have guys wheel her in.. like cinderella!

  3. How about a Watteau train? Rather than being an extra long skirt, the Watteau train is attached at the shoulders. If she has someone pushing the chair, she may have some problems but if she's pushing herself, there ought to not be any problems.

Watteau trains create a unique style for a unique bride.

  4. Many dresses have a removable train. They just eyehook on and off.

  5. I saw a picture of a woman in a wheelchair with a plain white wedding dress but wearing an extravagently long cathedral type veil which went behind her chair.  Try getting a dress with a lot of front detail, like roses or beadwork sewn on the front.  ball gowns would be a bit too fluffy, but she could wear something with a little thinner skirt and be fine!  is she unable to walk at all? if not, could she walk up the aisle using crutches?  the long veil looked very nice to me.  here is the link http://www.webaccessibility.biz/bride.jp...  Good luck!
