In a years time I will have completed my course in Photography and will be accredited. The idea is that I then start out working for myself and I think I would like to do weddings and maybe portraiture from home.

Can anyone in the field give me some advise on how to build up a portfolio, get experience, the cost of equipment etc, websites and the rest. Any information at all will be gratefully received. Thanks

  1. Hi Cupcake

Here is an incredible site that covers the A to Z on all types of photograhy. Very informative. If you do start fromthe home, use a roo, where your customers will be at east and that is usually a nice finished basement with class.

Get a good Desktop and install Corel and Photoshop to use as a base to do touch-ups (very light touch-ups) on photos you take before sending them to processing.

  2. If I was you, id work with another photographer for a while, and also do a few 'small' weddings, to get a portfolio built up, along with some recommendations.

Also, get an online PF done as well, so the public can see what you do, like http://www.redbubble.com/

then have the url of your PF on your Business cards (Vista Print if you are in the UK, 250 free)

As for portraits, get your friends/family to pose.

There are specialist groups on http://www.redbubble.com/

and people are only to willing to help. You can get critique on your work as well to help you.

    RB is Totally Free.

Message me and I will send a link to my PF on there.

    Good luck.

  5. I sincerely suggest you spend the year's time studying with this man. If not, you will find out the hard way that just taking good photos and having equipment means nothing toward success.
