Question:

Wedding planner and a teacher?

I am graduating with my teaching degree this fall. I am thinking about becoming a wedding planner on the side. Is being a teacher and a wedding planner too time consuming. I also will be starting off making $45,000 teaching and was wondering how much most wedding planners make. Thanks!

  1. I am a teacher and wedding planner.  Not to brag but I think I put forth 100% for both.  I will say it can be very stressful.  To begin, don't take on a lot of weddings at once.  One thing that helps is to slowly build your wedding business and hire people to direct the wedding.  You still do the planning but if they direct you can take some of the stress off of you.  Plus most weddings are on Saturdays so you don't have to worry about that interfering with school. Try it and see how it goes.  I do agree maybe not do it your first year of teaching because I couldn't imagine doing anything else when I was in my first year.  I'm in my third year now though and both are going very well.  Take the chance.  You have to be committed and organized but if you are you will be successful.
