Question:

Wedding procession with cross bearer?

I've never been to a wedding where there was a crucifer/cross-bearer before. How does the procession work? Does that mean the groom and best man must enter from the back of the church? How is he prevented from seeing the bride?

  1. The groom and the groomsmen wait at the side front, or even in the sanctuary. When the procession starts, led by the cross bearer, then the altar servers, and celebrant, then the men step out closer to the altar as the procession proceeds towards the altar.

So once the procession is done, then the bridesmaids and bride walk up the aisle.

  2. You need to go to the church and ask them these questions.  I have never seen this at a wedding so you need to go to the source and get informed

  3. While we did not have a cross bearer at our wedding, we both did enter from the back.  Most, if not all, chapels have rooms for this exact purpose.  Soon to be Mrs. stays behind closed doors until the groom is out already.

  4. RC weddings encourage the couple to enter together. If you want your processional order to be such that the groom doesn't see the bride, she must enter the church during the processional (i.e. once the groom has started to walk).
