  1. We're doing the same thing! Not because it's cheap, but just because that's what we really want to do.

Salads usually go over well. Things like potato or pasta salad are really easy, as well as Caesar or tossed green salad. Do you want something fancy..? Things like bbq (salmon, chicken, burgers, etc) can be inexpensive but you can still make it fancier if you want to.

  2. ok here goes i would go to reception halls to pretend like you are looking they will give you paperwork with all the menu items go off of that, that would be the best help  i can give. Good luck this is hard!

    Congrats

  3. baked ziti, chicken Parmesan, meatballs

or you can BBQ burgers and hot dogs-- it really depends what type of food you are looking for

  4. make sure you rent chaffing dishes, and do it buffet style. that way no one has to worry with dishes, etc... everyone gets their own food.

we had veggie trays, fruit trays, condiment trays, do some finger foods, like mini sandwiches.

if its a DINNER, do green beans, mashed potatoes, roast beef, chicken, ribs, baked beans. spagetti.

  5. finger foods,chocolates,If your country(cook -out)..theres always chicken...

  6. depends on the type of things you like. fruit salads are always good. deli plates (you can make your own ) veggie trays. cheese and crackers. mints, peanuts. it really all depends on what you like, time of day it is and what the weather outside is like. hope this helps

  7. Finger Foods

    chicken

    salads

    cupcakes

    Potato Salad

  8. Fruit and cheese platters.  Cocktail meatballs, kebobs (chicken and beef),  salads, breads, tacquitos,  bacon wrapped scallops, mini quiches.  Coffee, tea, soda, Of course, wedding cake and sparkling wines and juices for the toast.

  9. To be honest, it might be more cost effective to look around at cheap (like your grocery deli) catering options for the main dish and some sides. For example you can get huge vats of potato salad for much cheaper than you can make it on your own. Same to be said with baked beans and macaroni and cheese (not to mention so many other dishes). We just had my fiance's dad's 60th BDay with a total of 250 guests and did it at my fiance's parents' home. We did the main dish (pulled pork) on our own, but got all of the sides much cheaper at Sam's Club's Deli (along with the rolls and the cake) then if we would have had to buy the ingredients at the grocery store ourself.

    Other than that,

    cheap main dishes:

    sloppy joes, pulled beef/pork, sandwiches

    cheap side dishes:

salads of any variety, baked beans, veggie trays (FYI: fruit trays actually get pretty expensive)

    Some other ideas:

Make an alcoholic punch to help lessen the cost of alcoholic beverages, just watch out for children. We actually put ours behind the bar in a large beverage dispenser.

If you go the cheap catering option (even if you don't buy the main dish from them) they still might provide serving trays and silverware.

  10. Here are a few ideas; sometimes it also helps to go to local catering websites. They often post their menu's online - you can see what they normally serve and maybe it will give you some good ideas.
