Ok so we just got our rings yesterday after being married for 7mnths here is my question

1) Are you suppose to wear your ring at all times? (ex: bathing, and cooking)

2) How long did it take you to get used to it on your finger?

3) My husband does not want me to wear both engagement and wedding band at all times, he says i am going to get robbed. Anything i can tell him to calm his nerves?

Thank You

  1. A wedding ring is jewlery. but to answer some question here goes...

    1. There are times when wearing your ring might not be a great idea. For example: when cleaning your house; some cleaning agents will damage your ring. When taking care of babies; their skin is easily damaged; for their safety please take off any large stones. Rings should be properly cleaned on a regular basis.

2.It really doesn't take that long to get used to wearing your ring.

    3. I bow to your husband on this. If you are going to a questionable area, please leave off the diamond... for your safety!

    4. Please take your ring to a jewler for sizing. This will ensure that you do not accidentally loose your ring.

  2. i wear mine all the time except when I am cooking with raw meat and touching it or getting my hands messy.  I shower with them on but take them off for lotion.  I feel naked w/o them now but it took a little while to get used to it.  mine felt too big at first but that was in the dead of winter and as soon as my hands got cold and my finger would shrink it felt too big but as summer came along they fit just fine so Id wait that out.  you just need to get used to it.  AND there is no reason u cant wear both your ring and band...dont be flaunting it around and youll be fine. :)

  3. You shouldn't wear your ring when you are doing everyday things like cleaning, bathing, sleeping, putting makeup on and spraying hairspray. Try to keep it away from lotions as well. All of these things can damage your ring and it will lose its luster very quickly. Your ring can be a little harder to get used to if you did not by a comfort fit... but you WILL get used to it!

As for wearing your engagement ring and wedding band at all times, that is tradition! Your wedding band is supposed to be closest to your heart, and of course the engagement ring is always gorgeous. Most people even have them sautered together. Mine is currently being sautered.

I would also recommend getting your ring sized. Take it back to the jeweler you bought it from and tell them you need it sized, you don't want it very tight but they can find your perfect fit and size the ring accordingly. If you want your wedding band and engagement rings sautered together, this would be a good time.

Most jewelers will require that you have your ring cleaned and inspected every 6 months, so if you do end up leaving it on while you are cleaning or bathing, make sure you get the ring cleaned so that it is restored!

    Hope this helps!

  4. In my opinion it's ok to take it off for showering and sleeping, and if you're cooking and handling raw meat or something where bacteria can be trapped in the nooks and crannies of the ring (in food service, you are always supposed to cover your ring with a glove, and not permitted to wear anything other than a smooth band for that very reason).

I take mine off at night because my hands tend to swell at night, and I freak out about it being too tight. After I shower in the morning, I put it back on and wear it all day.

The point of having the engagement ring and band is to wear them together. When I am in a questionable environment, I usually just try not to flash my hand around, or else you can turn the stone to the inside of your hand.

If you can shake your hand and the ring comes off, yes, it is too big. If it is under warranty from a jewelry store, take it there - often they will size it for free. If not, you can take it to any store you trust.

  5. I have been married twice.  18 years to the first husband and now 22 with my second husband.

I wear my rings all the time.  I have never been robbed. But I would suggest that if anyone in the jewelry business tells you they will clean your diamond for free when you never asked them to clean it do not do it.

Especially if you go out of the country.

Take your rings to the place where you purchased them at least twice a year to have them looked at to see if the prongs are tight.  Most places you buy the ring will do this for free or a small fee.  It is so worth it.  More diamonds are lost through loose prongs then stolen.

  6. 1)  You are supposed to wear your rings most of the time.  I think most people take them off for bathing, sleeping, cooking or anytime where they could get damaged.

    2)  It will take a while but the more you wear it, the fater you will get used to it.

    3)  If you live in a very dangerous area, you husband may be right.  But, if not, he needs to remember that people wear rings all the time, you aren't the first one.  The majority managed not to get robbed on a day to day basis and you likely will too.

    4) Your ring should fit snug and should definitely not fall off.  You can take it anywhere to get sized but, if you bought a warranty or protection plan with a jeweler when you bought it, you should take it back there.  It usually takes 6-10 days.

  7. wear the ring as much as possable. its a sign of your love and bond to and with your husband. it depends on if you usually wore rings if so not long if not a few weeks. talk to him about why he thinks its unsafe to wear both. if the ring is only a little big you can get a sizer that will help it stay on. if its really big get it fixed.

  8. Back when my ring still fit, I wore my wedding band all the time. It never suffered any damage due to cooking, cutting, bathing, etc.

I got used to it within a month. After that, on the rare occasions when I took it off, my finger missed it a lot.

If your engagement and wedding set is showy, it's a tempting target. You can get in the habit of turning the stone(s) to the inside of your hand when you feel unsafe, so only the bands show.

  9. I wear my rings (diamond and 14k yellow gold engagement, wedding band, and anniversary ring) all the time - except when I am mixing dough or ground meat by hand.

When I got my engagement ring, I just kept looking at it all the time - but I had worn a dress ring on that finger before, so it didn't take any time to get used to it.

If your rings are really big bling, get extra insurance for them in addition to your homeowners or renters insurance.

Your ring should not shake off - any jeweller can resize it, it doesn't cost much. The only thing is, that usually the place where you bought it often resizes a ring free the first time.
