Wedding this weekend....need some advice!?

My wedding is this Sat @ 7pm and i was wondering how many of you girls are/did your own makeup? I currently have my hair appointment at 3pm and they said it could take 1-2 hours so if i did get my makeup done it would have to be before my appointment in order for me to have enough time. I got my make up done at the same place I'm getting my updo for my portrait but was not happy with the outcome so i would have to choose some place else. Can any recommend a nice place to get your makeup done? (e.g. @ at a certain makeup counter in the mall or something like that?) And also, does it really matter you think if i get my makeup done first, then my updo?

Thanks!

  1. First congratulations and good luck!!

    You have three wonderful options:

    1. go to Youtube and lookup wedding makeup http://youtube.com/results?search_query=...

And learn some new techniques and do it yourself :)

    2. Go to a cosmetics counter like MAC and have them do your makeup. In return you'll have to buy $60-100 worth of makeup from them, choose the same stuff they use. Take a picture with you. Try and avoid telling them it's your wedding because they may turn you away however if they do find out tell them that you've changed your mind about the makeup place you had originally booked with (bad experience, etc) and really need this.. Take a picture with you so they know what you like!

    3. Take a picture with you to the salon you're going to and tell them you want the exact same look.

    All the best.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I called a local makeup college and asked if they would recommend any of their graduates and they were more than pleased. They're giving me a free trial and then I can negotiate a price with the artist myself. Maybe you can try that as well? And have them come today or tomorrow for a free trial or go over to them. Good luck!!!!

  2. I'm doing my own make up. I know jhow to do it and I want to look like myself.

I purchased expensive makeup for the special ocassion. I investin in Bare Minerals... it will last all day and it looks very natural. I also got Dior Show mascara and my old time favorite Estee Lauder Magnoscopic mascara. You can buy all of this products in Sephora. The bare Minerals blush is really realy good and natural looking. I'm using 8 hours long lasting lipstick from Avon.

I've tried my brideal make up and I will take a picture and see how it looks and what do I have to add and modify.

    Good luck

  3. I did my  own make up as well.  My wedding was at 2pm and my hair apt was at 9am.  I figured I was going to early but it ended up being perfect.  It took about an hour and half for me and my daughter to get our hair done (two separate people did it).  Then after we finished there, me and my daughter went to go eat.  Then we headed to the church.   It was great, I wasn't rushed to get dressed.  I relaxed for a little while before I started getting ready, I had time to go see what the ladies were doing in the reception hall.  And before I knew it 2PM was here.  So allocate plenty of time to get to the church.  And you don't want to do the makeup before your hair apt, it will just come off if it is hot like it is here in TX.

  4. MAC counter is everything you could dream for your wedding. make up artists will be wearing crazy colors, but they won't put them on you. (unless you want them to) they are located in the mall.

  5. i had a friend who is a make up artist and she did my make up before i got my hair done.. I dont think it matters, for me it was a timing issue.. she was also in the wedding so needed to get herself ready too... i would do it however is the easiest for you. enjoy your day, it goes by so fast!

  6. i had my make up done professionally @ the same salon i had my hair done.

  7. M.A.C.

It doesn't really matter which you do first.  Just make sure you make plenty of time for both.

  8. I did my own makeup and was very happy.  I felt like I looked like ME and not some done-up Barbie.

  9. I will be going to MAC a week beforehand with my mom and I will get a trial (it's free) and I will be purchasing all the essentials (foundation, concealer and powder) and my mom will be doing my make-up

She did the same thing for my sister and she came out FABULOUS....

It comes out cheaper than actually getting a makeup artist go to you and do your make up (a MAC artist charges about $150 for a bride)

  10. My makeup was done before my hair for the last wedding I was in. Both the makeup artist and the hair stylist came to the house and we were all on rotation as to who was where when. It didn't seem to make a difference which was done first so the timing should be okay. We had a professional makeup artist who gave us a requested look (mine was "natural but dramatic!" that lasted all day without shininess and looked great for the pics. I have seen brides who di it themselves and I have seen brides who have it done professionally and it seems to be the same to me. We had ours done because the MoH was a model and suggested it because of the lighting for pictures.

My makeup time was 9:30am. The wedding was at 5:00pm. I'd say you'll have NO trouble with your timeframe ( =

It should be fine to get it done before your hair, it was no problem for me!

Also, to those who say that professional makeup looks "Barbie Style", that's not necessarily true. If the artist listens to your needs and wants and is good at her job she will simply highlight your features the same way you would do it yourself - only her job will last longer because she uses specific products to establish the look that will carry through the day. There's nothing "Barbie" about not having an oily "T" zone ( =

    Good luck!

  11. mac makeup is the best!!! dillards stores? or mac store!
