In weddings it is important that only the bride wear white, but then why does the flower girl usually have a white dress too?

  1. usually the flower girl has an off white dress

  2. Typically, white at a wedding represents innocence and purity, and in times past, it was largely considered appropriate for the bride (who was at this time virginal) to wear white to represent her purity. Accordingly, white was worn by the flower girl to represent her innocence. Whilst in some parts of the world this tradition has been overwritten, in many societies its continues.

  3. It can be either the flower girl wearing white (sometimes they are a mini-bride), or in a dress the same colour as the bridesmaids.

Back in the day when I was a flower girl, once I was in white, once in pink matching the bridesmaids.

  4. The white wedding gown is a trend started by Queen Victoria. It doesn't signify innocence and purity. It signifies that the family is wealthy enough to buy an expensive outfit that will only be worn once. Until the trend took off, brides wore their best clothes on their wedding day, regardless of the color.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that people thought it was cute for the flower girl to look like a little bitty bride. In the olden superstitious days, bridesmaids were actually the bride's "protectors" - they figured the evil spirits or highwaymen wouldn't be able to tell which dressed-up woman was the bride (see, very superstitious). I wonder if dressing the flower girl in a similar way to the bride is an echo of that old tradition.

  5. Its tradition. You don't have to follow that at all if you don't want to. We went to a black and white wedding where the bride wore a black dress and veil and the bridesmaids wore white. Lol sounds odd but she was the most stunning bride have ever seen. And flowergirls don't always wear off white. My flowergirl is wearing gold and my daughter is wearing a deep red.

  6. Because!... She's the flower girl! nah i don't know! have no clue... i haven't even notice it... well then in your wedding have your flower girl wear black! how bout that!

  7. It's Totally Up To You.

My Sister Got Married In April & Her Daughter (My Niece) Was The Flower Girl & Wore A Mini, More Simple Version Of The Bridal Gown.

    It Looked Really Good.

You Can Have The Flower Girl Wear The Same Colour As The Bridemaids If You Like, It's Entirely Your Call.

  8. The idea is that no one outshine the bride.  given the fact the flower girl is a child, that doesn't seem so threatening.  And some brides get the matching flower girls dresses so they are like mini-brides.

But flower girl dresses come in all colors, not just white.

  9. i always wondered that too. since the bride wears white to show innocence and purity maybe its the same for the flower girl. or maybe its like a "circle of life" thing....just a guess :)
