  1. Send Out Travel and Accommodation cards well before your wedding do your research ring around, you may be able to get a group discount at the one hotel, remember you don't have to pay for it all, offer your guests the discount not a free room!

    Travel and Accommodation

Many couples do not necessarily meet and marry in their hometowns anymore. They may choose to wed in the city where they now reside, at a location that means something to them, a far-flung destination or any number of places. As a result, guests may have to travel in from out of town to attend a wedding and may be unfamiliar with the area. The Travel and accommodation card lets guests know of any travel specials/ information or accommodation specials/information you have acquired on their behalf.

  2. Don't spend so much on the wedding! Use money for a downpayment on a house. Decrease the guest list to 100. It will save you so much! You don't have to do the food. You can still hire someone, just make it buffet style finger foods (chicken fingers, meatballs, etc.). Also, my flowers were about $250 10 years ago. I had 50 guests. Mostly carnations, roses, and baby's breath.

  3. Have you considered a smaller wedding and a bigger evening do if your worried about money?

  4. start saving huni!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. 200 guests for a party at £15 a head is £3000 to start off with.

    Start saving now

  6. Check this website if you want to: http://weddingkits.org/, http://beautykits.org/

  7. Remember this: It's not the wedding, It's the marriage that matters most

  8. You definitely should start saving now. There are so many big expenses, and then there are zillions of little ones that add up to a lot..

You have to be careful when you choose a public venue for the reception. They may not allow you to bring your own food. A lot of places have rules saying that only they can do the food, or they may have a list of accepted caterers they'll allow. These rules are usually in place for health codes and such, so they don't get a bad reputation or get in trouble if someone gets sick after eating there. Ask different places what their policies are, what their prices are, and what's included in their prices (food, drinks, servers, table clothes/napkins, room rental, etc.). Then figure out how much it would cost to do it yourself, and compare. Doing all your food yourself will be a huge job, even if you have people helping you, and you should let it be a fun time and focus on being happily married. Letting someone else take care of the food (whether it's a caterer or your family/friends) will save you a LOT of stress. :-)

Flowers can be REALLY expensive.. You'll want to book your florist about a year before your wedding, but you can start looking at florists in your area now to see their work, see their prices, and compare them all. On your wedding day, transfer your ceremony flowers/decorations to the reception location to save a little money there, and ask your florist to be honest & help you keep the flowers within your budget. My friend's sister got married this year, and she said that she only bought 2 ceremony arrangements, the unity candle flowers, and her bridal bouquet, and it added up to about $700... Which is ridiculous! A good creative florist will be able to figure out a way to work well within your budget.

The flowers are something I'm planning on doing myself. I'm pretty good at arranging flowers, so I'm ordering lots of roses (globalrose sells good ones at low prices), and my bridesmaids and I will make our bouquets and our guys' boutonnierres the night before the wedding. My centerpieces will be really simple: just lily bowls with a few rose heads and rose petals floating in them, and ivy and rose petals on the tables around the bowls. I'll have a florist make the extra boutonnierres and corsages for our parents. Doing this will save me at least $500-$600!!

When you decide to do any DIYs, make sure you enlist the help of friends, parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen, your groom... anyone who can help! They'll be happy to help, as long as you're not a bridezilla. ;-)

    Good luck! And congrats!
