Wee Gieen, Mei Kuan thrash Sitthikom Thammasin, Narissapat Lam in Asian Junior Championships 2012
Malaysia’s Wee Gieen Tan-Mei Kuan Chow provided their team a breakthrough by stamping Sitthikom Thammasin-Narissapat Lam in Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Mixed Team Championships on July 1, 2012.
This was first Mixed Doubles tie of a quarter-final match between Thailand and Malaysia and it set the overall tempo of the contest.
Both contenders remained in action for 48 minutes before ending this battle with final result of 19-21, 21-15 and 21-14.
The Thai pair gained an early advantage by winning the opening game but they could not capitalise in the final part of match and surrendered in disgraceful manner.
Meanwhile, the victorious duo did not lose heart after first set loss and played with great conviction to pocket a vital match point.
In the first set of the match, Sitthikom and Narissapat started the ball rolling straight away in the beginning when they grabbed four points in a row and placed a decent total of 7-3.
They kept on dictating their rivals all the way to mid-game break and finished first half with distinctive margin of 11-8.
Though, they blundered in third quarter of the set but still they managed to maintain a slight edge until game point situation.
Malaysians strived hard to catch them but they could not accomplish the task and knelt down after reading 19-21 score on the board.
However, things worked in their favour in following game as they finished this crucial set with a notable six-point difference in concluding margin.
Wee Gieen and Mei Kuan set up the foundation of their supremacy by prevailing in six continuous rallies after 3-2. They lost grip just before the interval which allowed their challengers to put a fighting total of 8-11.
However, they completely dominated in the later part of the game and wrapped this segment of show in splendid manner.
They strengthened their grip with 16-11 and then magnified the impact by registering an overwhelming figure of 21-15.
Lot of fireworks was expected in third set but it turned in to a one-sided affair after first half. The Malaysian duo played with right attitude and swept the table with 21-14.
Now Malaysia will lock horns with China in semi-final round of this team event.
