I broke my jaw and have surgery next week. I'm a student and I have this plan where college pays for my medicare. The hospital where I will be treated is a teaching hospital under my university. Before I go under general anesthesia should I tell my doctor that I smoke weed occasionally given that my college expels people who are found smoking pot?

  1. I'm a life-long smoker and I can tell you this.  I've had surgery both on and off and I think I dwelt on the sounds and the pain and the experience a little too much when I was irie.  So don't do that...

But should you tell him?  Only if you're trying to smoke out with him.  Will it change the course of your anesthesia in ANY WAY, not at all.  Is there the risk that Johnny Boyscout might decide to rat you out cause he's a human Kotex?  Uh... Duh?  Yeah.  So STFU, don't say squat, get your surgery done and don't worry about drug interactions with weed, cause there aren't any.  And if they want to give you a chem panel or something similar tell them h**l no cause that's an illicit drug screener and that will become part of your permanent record.

Don't forget, the Federal Gov invalidates all federal college money for ANYONE busted for drugs.

  2. I don't think it will have any effect on your anesthesia, as long as you are not high at the time of your surgery.  And anything you would tell your doctor would fall under patient doctor confidentiality, and it would be against his code of ethics to tell on you.

  3. I would definitely quit until your surgery, with a broken jaw that wont be to hard. If you really only do it occasionally then it should be moving out of your system by then any way. The only thing that I know of that it could affect is possibly that amount of drug they will need. But when dealing with anesthetic drugs it best to remove possibilities for side effects if possible. So i would stop until then and it would be a good idea to keep your mouth shut about it. But that wont be to hard now will it.
