  1. It's to symbolize that they've broken the mold & are no longer living in "Little Boxes" on the hillside that all look just the same as they were in cookie-cutter, artificial Agrestic. They now live in a more relaxed, organic-feeling neighborhood by the beach, but even though life is more simple in that town, it's not for the Botwins. They're dealing with rawer, grittier things this season, and the simple, no-frills opening reflects all that. The theme would clash with the new settings. I do miss it though; I loved how a different singer would perform it each week like Regina Spektor & Jenny Lewis.

Bit of trivia: In the show it looks like the town they live in now is much closer to the Mexican border, but the house and beach scenes were shot in Manhattan Beach. My friend lives two streets over & we got to watch them film it last spring. Hunter, the guy who plays Silas on the show is HOT. : )
